Am I the only one who is concerned that $3 billion offered by Qatar Emir for COMPENSATION to families who died on that plane incident, Iran will instead spend half of that on another purpose?

I believe this news are fake.
1) Qatar gave this money for plane incident. If Iran's Mullahs has any honour and common sense, than they won't use this money for a different purpose (Especially not to buying fighter jets!)
2) Qatar is also a US ally, they won't gift jets to Iran, that would irritate US, and Qatar won't take a massive risk like that.
In the end, this news must be fake.

The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has concluded plans to use $1.5 of $3 billion allocated to it by Qatar to purchase 36 Chinese Chengdu J-10C fighters as tensions heighten in the Middle East.


The J-10C are said to be cheaper and more promising than the Russian MiG-35 fighters the country was reportedly interested in buying.

“The Emir (head of state) of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Iran and met with the country’s president Rouhani in Tehran.


“Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani offered Iran $3 billion in financial assistance on behalf of Qatar for compensating the families of the victims who were killed in Iran. However, according to a report from the Reuters news agency, Iran plans to use $1-1.5 billion as compensation to the victims’ families, and the remaining funds will be used to purchase new weaponry and equipment.

“Iran’s Air Force is currently in the worst position with respect to equipment, and new fighters are urgently needed to replace the old ones. The J-10 is one of the potential targets,” Sina reports.

At the same time, the Chinese news agency points out that Iran remains extremely interested in Russian Su-30 fighters.


However, in light of the recent criticism against Russian military aircraft, primarily on account of the lack of spare parts, Iran is still greatly interested in China’s Chengdu J-10.

If I was Iran I would have invested/purcashed into COMAC. By doing so it would speed up the maturity of their aviation industry and that would lead to alternatives to Boeing etc. Don't forget western manufactuers did not land from Mars but have slowly matured, helped by massive state investment and defence industries. By just buying it from traditional sources your merely reinforecing the monopoly that is crippling Iran

Yes but COMAC'S passenger plane itself is still just being produced(medium passenger plane for regional flights ) and not in large quantities as of yet. Even so their passenger and is mostly made up of western equipments for the most part. So even if iran did purchase them, in case of western sanctions COMAC won't be able to even deliver the planes to Iran, and COMAC won't want to jeopardize their business and survival prospect( they are still a new entrant in this game long dominated by western powers) just for Iran, so you can be sure that COMAC won't want to take that risk since it isn't worth it. So there you go again, Iran will still be back to square one.
So I think Iran need to realise that the West is still the dominant undisputed leader for now and it won't go away anytime soon. So why not take a step back and readjust their policy.
Geo politics is not always a zero sum game unlike how the mullahs have been acting since the revolution. There are countries like Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia's etc who aren't as radical in their rhetoric against the West like Iran is, but they still have an independent policy and make their own decisions They cooperate with western powers and also cooperate with countries like Russia and China etc for their own self interests. And it has served them well. Even China which is a rival to the U.S has had and still has large trade relations with the U.S , and U.S companies have invested hundreds of billions of dollars in China these past decades and they are still doing so today even with Trumps unpredictable nature/policy. U.S China will still carry on trading and even cooperating in other fields like nuclear power(American, French and Japanese companies are involved in building nuclear plants in China as well for example). So it's not always a zero sum game.

Iran since the revolution has basically alienated itself from the entire west and has fostered that anti Western rhetoric in its very own psyche and strategy. This has led to them taking some weird actions like invading foreign countries embassies with whom they have problems. Not even pariah countries like North Korea or even Gaddafi at his worse has done such thing . This has only created even more divide between both sides and tarnished the countries reputation . Iran need to step back and review it's policy from the ground up.
Work with what you got, know your enemies strengths and your own weakness and plan ahead for the future .
