Iran builds S-300-style anti-aircraft!

I'm not to sure that with China and Russia not going with sanctions that the time is coming for the U.S. to act without Israel. It's not like Iran hasn't been given chance after chance to come clean. when you see a convergence of at least 3 - 4 aircraft carrier battle groups then you will know it's time. The end of negotiations has to come sometime if they are not working.

Haven't Russians and the Chinese recently agreed for further sanctions on the Iranian regime?

The regime is not willing to come clean, fanatical as it is. Its high time that students and moderates in Iran take matter into their own hands and lets hope a peaceful revolution will remove the fanatical regime/leaders.

And I do agree with others' assessment that any attack on Iran will not go down well with the Persians - no matter on which side of their internal political divide they stand!

Russia and China have always waffled on Iran sanctions. recently they said they would support more sanctions but then eluded that they would not. While I would hope that there is change from within Iran. I believe there can not be a repeat of the student revolution that brought the Mullahs to power. Most in the Shah's military found it hard to fire on the students. And in fact joined sides with them.

You will not find that problem with the revolutionary guard, Qud's force, or Basij. They are fanatical in their defense of the mullahs. and armed with the best weapons Iran has to offer. Even if the regular army joined forces with the people they would find it hard to succeed. And that's the way the Mullahs have designed it. they are way worse then the Shah ever was.

Quick question there Thomas: for argument sake let's say the Shah or his minions were "invited" back and Iran is somehow "rolled back" to the pre-revolutionary state, would they be permitted to have a stash of HEU then?

Sure, you would likely still ask the question why they would want a stash of HEU. How about just because?

How about them getting His Highness back and then politely opting out of the NPT? Can they do that? Or would that still be a "bombable" offense?

Hey Yank - stop derailing every thread with your rants.

Coming back to topic - I do not believe that Iran is capible of building a system that can effectively defend against an Israeli attack....cause some problems, set Israel back a day or two - maybe.

At most, they could probably delay the checkmate.

Allah Knows best.

any country has the right to a peaceful nuke energy program. There is also a way in which you go about it which includes transparency with the IAEA. If they start a bomb program and have a history of belligerency and instability then they can expect to be on the receiving end of a concerted campaign to stop them.

and yes I also do not believe that Iran actually has a S300 type defense system.

Vladimir Yevseyev, a senior research fellow at the Russian Academy of Sciences World Economics and International Relations Institute, dismissed the claims as "misleading information."

"Iran is unable to build these complexes due to its serious technological lag. Nor is it likely to acquire such capability in the next five years," he said.

He also said Iran was unable to copy S-300s.

If iran could build them why bother to buy them off the russians?

Iran cannot win a war with US and NATO if the war happens. So, can you tell what will be use of spending so much on military hardware. US if want can easily hit and take out the army in a month.

Rather than spending this money on military hardware, it should spend some time getting unanimous consensus with its people and make a hard stance. Rather than making controversial statements like wiping out Israel off the map, or that Nazis did not kill Jews, it should try to focus on making strategic friends than work hard on making enemies that are way stronger than it.

Increasing military hardware spending in Iran would make Pakistan nervous. Despite all the sanction issues, Iran and India have better relations. Pakistan is already worried about India's conventional superiority and India's hold on Afghan government. Now, with Iran acquiring state of art weapons will make sure not just Iran, Pakistan too will spend larger percentage of its GDP on defense acquiring sophisticated which will have redundant use while fighting hill billy's aka Taliban.

Iran is not india. time to wake up.

If you like, I can post you some photos showing their weapons designed/made in iran. it is very different from india which even need to import bullets from Israel.

Isn't that what everyone said about Afghanistan ?

If US wants to, US can send troops into Iran and occupied their major cities, include Tahran, in a month. However, US would be facing major insurgency.

I believe that US should allow Israel to take out iranian reactors after a certain point. Otherwise, the world would be a more dangerous place. US should also supply arms to assist Israel to do this.

.
yes, and the current aircraft inventory in Israel is not capable of taking out a s-300 system. Israel needs F-35 or silent eagles in order to take out such a system. Maybe the US can loan Israel a couple of squadrons of F-22 for several days with pilots included. That would be the end of Iranian nuclear program.:usflag::china::pakistan:
Be careful on making this kind of statement as you do not know what we and our allies have and capable of doing.

IMINT & Analysis: US Restricted and Classified Test Sites
TOLICHA PEAK ELECTRONIC COMBAT RANGE

The radar range near Tonopah is not the only electronic combat facility in the Nevada desert. At 37°18'58.48"N 116°46'50.93"W the Tolicha Peak Electronic Combat Range can be found.
Tolicha is not unknown, but not necessarily public knowledge either.
The mainstream belief is that the Tolicha Peak facility houses numerous radar systems to support RED FLAG operations, given its proximity to two mock airfields. A more detailed examination provides an alternative, that of foreign SAM system exploitation and testing. Elements of S-125 (SA-3 GOA), S-200 (SA-5 GAMMON), and S-300PS/PM (SA-10B GRUMBLE) SAM systems can be found on the grounds of Tolicha Peak.
Tolicha have either whole or considerable pieces of Soviet/Russian radar systems and deploy them in as close to 'real world' environmental and operating conditions as possible. May be difficult to believe but we do have snow here in Nevada.
The most interesting facility found at Tolicha Peak is the S-300P launch site. It would appear that a nearly complete collection of radars is present, as well as two TELs and a 40V6 mast assembly. The 40V6 is used to mount either the 30N6 (FLAP LID) engagement radar or the 76N6 (CLAM SHELL) low altitude detection radar on a 23.8 meter mast to provide better performance in areas with varied terrain or vegetation. The shadow cast by the southern 5P85 TEL seems to indicate that it is a 5P85S, complete with the control compartment for controlling the adjacent 5P85D TEL. The vehicle which is most likely the 30N6 engagement radar vehicle appears to have the radar array lowered in the travel configuration. Given the presence of the mobile TELs and the mobile 30N6 radar, the system present here is likely either an S-300PS or S-300PM.
All branches of the US military have 'foreign technology exploitation' offices and each usually focus on the technology matters most to their areas of expertise. The Navy, of course would have little interests in tanks, for example.
It is also possible that the associated radar systems are in fact also used against aircraft flying on the Nellis AFB Range to provide more realistic electronic combat training.
No...There is no 'possible' about it. What use is it to 'exploit' a potential adversary's weapons system without actually making it fully functional? The Soviets knew about TPECR from their satellite passes. They knew we tested out aircrafts against what they deployed and/or sold to clients.

Do not fall into the false belief that just because Iran, Russia and China cannot do <something> no one else can. The S-300 have been fully 'exploited' and tactics to defeat it have either been fully realized or inevitably will be.
