Iran and Pakistan to sign deal to bypass sanctions and exchange rice for electricity

Why do you guys need to do barter to make a trade with Iran ????

Indonesia and Iran trade I believe is still using conventional mean (using USD).

The trade value is decreasing after Iran get sanction but regardless of that the trading activity is still going on between two nations.

. .
Relax guys, first up, we have excess elec generation capacity at present. Any off grid villages near the border is no significant trade. Second up the proposal is still sitting on tables in Islamabad for fear of reprisal by Uncle sam. Wake me up when the headlines say 'Iran-Pak ink deal to exchange oil for rice'.

. .
Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Alireza Razm Hosseini says the country is ready to barter its electricity with rice from Pakistan, saying the launch of the exchange mechanism is waiting for a final decision by financial authorities in Islamabad.
“In return for exports of electricity we can import rice from Pakistan and the issue is waiting for a decision by the related (government) departments in Pakistan including the country’s Central Bank,” said Razm Hosseini on Tuesday.
According to Press TV, rice exporters in Pakistan have been urging the government to use a barter system with Iran that could bypass US sanctions and allow Islamabad to settle its bills for Iranian electricity supplies while helping rice farmers and traders in Pakistan to expand their activity.
Some have also suggested a barter mechanism for rice against imports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran although Tehran seems reluctant to make its precious supplies of liquid fuels available for such swaps.
Razm Hosseini’s Tuesday remarks came following a phone call between the minister and Abdul Razak Dawood, who serves as advisor on commerce, industries and production and investment to the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The phone call, held upon a request by the Pakistani embassy in Tehran, was in line with preparations for an upcoming meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee in Tehran. Dawood is expected to attend the committee meeting to sign a series of key cooperation documents, including a potential deal on electricity for rice barter.
Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT) said Dawood had stated in the Tuesday phone call with Razm Hosseini that Pakistan would be able to supply up to one million metric tons of rice a year to Iran in return for electricity imports from its neighbor.

Quite frankly world is becoming wary of unilateral sanctions imposed by the US. It is in our national interest to forge a good relation with Iranis, so we can try to convince them to give up their shady Persian Empire designs in Pakistan. And we need their cheap energy resources.

If the price of electricity is reasonable then it's more economical to get electricity from Iran in bordering areas than setting up own power plants plus we will be able to export rice.

.
Unless this is a political decision which i am sure, rebuking Indians

Iranian کشت و صنعت مغان can produce any kind of agricultural product that one could imagine.

Hopefully this exchange will be expanded to other areas in the future

How much kilo rice per kilowatt hour has been offered to Iran?

. .
we have good quality rice. we have one specific long aromatic one produced in collaboration with China. they are produced with sustainable means. you won't get this price anywhere else foe this quality

.
At what cost. They can produce electricity at a cheaper price then we can and we can produce rice at a cheaper price then they can. A good trade that is humanitarian and improves the lives of both peoples. We need to find ways to lower prices to improve the living standards of the population.

Glad both sides finally came to their senses and realized deals like this are mutually beneficial for both sides. Both get better products for cheaper price. It is a win win. That's how trade works.

Why cant we produce our own electricity 😫
Iran can’t produce its own rice?
Pakistan and Iran can do both independent of one another.
Iran has lots of fuel for a lower so it can produce cheaper and greater electricity.

Pakistan has more water and arable land so it can produce cheaper rice and in greater quantity. Plus this digs into India’s claim over the Iranian rice market. Indians are furious.

Integrating electricity grids can also result in back up sources of electricity that can prevent country wide outages kind of like the one we saw in Pakistan a few days ago. Canada and the USA has a giant system set up just for this purpose

This deal is a good example of comparative economic advantage in action.
