IPI gas pipeline to face difficulties, says Bugti

QUETTA: Jamhoori Watan Party chairman Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti has said the procedure for Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline would “face difficulties” if carried out without the “participation of Baloch element”.

He cited “grave times ahead” for the ongoing “struggle for Baloch resistance movement” and cautioned that “Baloch coastline was getting out of Baloch jurisdiction”.

Talking to Online via satellite telephone, he said that even President Musharraf had admitted that the real issue for the Balochis is “autonomy” and rights of Balochi masses.

Replying to a question about the “resistance limits of resistance fighters”, he said that it would continue in defence of “our resources” and region. He said that this conflict had been imposed by the government and would end only after government “withdraws from our land”.

He said that this is “not a face-to-face war”, rather the “resistance fighters” are using “guerrilla tactics of hit and run”.

Replying to another question about any interaction with any political party, he said that so far no one had gotten in touch with him except the government with its heavy armaments and bombardments. online

there are two key issue in the baluchistan problem, respect and money

how much automnomy and respect baluchistan has, in it's system

the second is royalities from gas wealth and other business done like pipelines
-------------------
a fair government system in baluchistan should not be stopped, but if a fair one is in place it should not be bent to the will of a few sardar if they did not get the votes

on the second a fair negociated amount of royalties should be negiciated out (this is the true issue), between the elected government in baluchistan and the negiciated government

on the issue of "punjabis" comming in...
baluchistan is part of pakistan so all pakistani's will be moving around in the country

A fair share of the profits the federal government gets for sale of natural resources and the routes for the pipelines, considering baluchistan doesn't really have much in the way of agriculture

a negociated development deal should be signed with the provincial government for development (the kind asked for by many baluchis, but a compromise on the following issues) such as;

1. roads linking baluchi villages to each other and to major roads
2. jobs for local baluchis in projects like gwadar
3. more in number and better in quality schools in baluchistan
4. training institues for baluchis, so they can get into the new industries
5. if gas has to go to punjab, then a fair price for the gas
6. preventing torture of people picked up by the police
7. a re-evaluation of the idea of a network of cantonments

what it comes down to, is development of the balcuhistan so the people of baluchistan can enjoy the prosperity of the nation, and these are the only things they contribute to the national wealth, and from this they want a fair share of the profits, so they can develop themselves
