The iPhone 7's new A10 Fusion processor has gotten lost in most of the hype around the missing iPhone jack, but it shouldn't. In fact, based on our performance tests thus far, the iPhone 7 beats every major recent Android flagship phone. By a wide margin.

Take the relatively new Geekbench 4 test, which has been updated to model real-world tasks and applications. On the mutli-core portion of the CPU performance test, the iPhone 7 scored 5,507. That obliterates the 3,918 score from the Galaxy S7. In other words, the iPhone 7 is 33 percent faster.

We saw similar results from other premium Android phones, such as the LG G5, which notched 3,737 on the same Geekbench 4 test. However, the OnePlus 3, which benefits from 6GB of RAM, hit a fairly high 4,171.

So what about graphics performance? The iPhone 7 turned in a very high score of 37,810 on the 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited Test. That beats the LG G5 (27,118), Galaxy S7 Edge (27,851), as well as the OnePlus 3 (29,957).

We also measured browser performance on the iPhone 7 and Android competition using the JetStream Javascript benchmark. And once again Apple's phone came out on top. It scored 169.04, compared with 44 for the Galaxy S7 and the low 50s for the LG G5 and OnePlus 3.

To gauge real-world performance, we also ran a quick app open time test using the Chameleon Run game. The iPhone 7 took 3.3 seconds, compared to 4.5 seconds or longer on the Galaxy S7 and LG G5.

iPhone 7 Benchmarks: It’s Faster Than All MacBook Airs Ever, Top Android Phones In 2016

Apple ever thinks different to make a big deal regarding the new product line as A10 Fusion chip ships in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, makes sense though. Apple’s new range of smartphones are extremely fast, as outlined by the recently-revealed Geekbench scores when compared against leading Android handsets of 2016.

Of course, the iPhone 7 is faster than its own desktop and notebook range of all MacBook Air line as well. The iPhone 7’s Geekbench scores shows that the device not only competes Samsung’s Galaxy S7 from a single-core score perspective, but also theoretically outperforms all of Apple’s MacBook Air models, and even comes very closer to the performance of a MacBook Pro.

The iPhone 7’s single-core scores is an extremely impressive feat, jumped to 3,450, almost twice as fast as the highest ranking Android-powered device, which currently is Samsung Galaxy S7. Reason? After all, iPhone 7 contains a chipset that is far capable of producing 3x the performance of the iPhone 6, and undoubtedly outputs Geekbench scores that are better than any MacBook Air model ever made by Apple, both rivaling at single-core and multi-core level.

What’s more impressive is how the iPhone 7 performs comparably with a 2013 MacBook Pro on both single/multi-core benchmarks. Looking at these scores initially outlines just how better the new iPhone 7 is from a performance and technical perspective.

About Geekbench, which is one of the popular benchmarking solution that has been working extremely hard in recent times to ensure that smartphone and laptop scores have more relevance to one another. Still, it is worth noting that it doesn’t mean that an iPhone 7 can execute tasks and handle processes and apps better than a full-fledged computer.

Although, Geekbench results tells us how capable the specific device is at performing tests designed to benchmark a device. In the real-world test, it doesn’t actually tell us how capable the device is at performing that users do on a daily basis, such as invoking apps and loading content, as browsing content on the Internet Web. There are other variables at play, like an internal SSD that can be determine the performance of a device type.

Finally, the numbers speak and should definitely give consumers confidence about the Apple’s iPhone 7, that it’s a powerhouse of a device that can more authentically hold its own stamp in this saturated smartphone market.

Some reviews say that iPhone 7 is faster than the latest MacBook Air. But my question is why would I need such computing power on my phone? I have a four year old iPhone 3GS which pretty much serves all my needs. I use google maps (inside the city to check out traffic conditions and when I drive out to new places), Apple Music, e-mail and Whats App. It does a pretty neat job with these apps. I use my MacBook Air for browsing and other apps. Why would anyone want to pay INR 70,000 for an iPhone 7 when you can buy a functional iPhone and a MacBook Air for a little more?

This race of fastest CPU or GPU dont make any difference in real life as many mobile devices with old CPU and GPU can easily run any graphic intensive games and multitasking easily so even iphone 6 will do all task as fast as iphone 7..you have to see whether there are many extra features which are worth paying more

app opening depend more on software than hardware. Nexus devices can open apps much quicker because they dont have bloatware and run pure android

Apple's vision is to kill the PC and make the phone(and subsequent tabs with the same system) powerful enough to replace it...where as Microsoft wants an integrated system of pcs and phones(thus the multi-platform OS).

iPhone 7 is a great product and I'm waiting for my copy. However we shouldn't give to much attention to the synthetic benchmarks since they have little bearing on the real world performance. Also comparison of iPhone 7 and MacBook air is ridiculous, it is not an Apple to Apple (though it is since both are Apple products ) comparison as iPhone is just a content consumption device while MacBook Air is content creating device and if I'm forced to choose between the two..I would go with MacBook Air any day.

apple wants to make aspirational products that will earn more margin... they dont want to kill the pc or any segment... tomorrow if they think there is a market for 8.5 form factor, they will create ipad mini plus...
the processing power is to differentiate themselves from competitors... but yea microsoft is more serious about productivity app/office software than apple.... because apple cant make a dent in business segment.(people who need to explain why they are spending extra money to their shareholders)
