The next iPhone, the iPhone 17 series, would be one of the most interesting iPhones launched in many years. Leaks point to significant design changes, camera improvements, and new display sizes. Perhaps the most exciting rumor are Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date — if it’s indeed called the iPhone 17 Air.
These leaks originate from various Apple tipsters and insiders, injecting excitement ahead of the company's official announcement. Here’s what we know so far about the iPhone 17 lineup.
The rear camera on the iPhone 17 Air would therefore be of a single-lens setup, displayed under a raised circular island that goes across the device’s back. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will retain their triple-lens setup, but will unpack a larger camera bump for better photography capabilities.
The flash bulb, microphone and LiDAR sensor (if it has one) will also be located vertically on the right-hand side of the camera module. This issue of the phone wobbling on a flat surface due to uneven camera bumps was more evident in previous iPhone Pro models.
Apple’s “Air” branding is typically reserved for lighter and cheaper and less powerful versions of its flagship products, as in the iPad Air and MacBook Air. If this is indeed the case, the iPhone 17 Air could launch as a mid-tier offering — delivering a more premium look and feel than the standard offering, but not the premium price tag that the Pro are generally accompanied by.
An iPhone 17 series with radical design alterations, a super-slim iPhone Air and extensive camera upgrades is looking like one of Apple’s most exciting launches yet. Nonetheless, as ever, we should take these leaks with a pinch of salt until Apple reveals the details for itself.

iPhone 17 Air: The Thinnest iPhone So Far
The iPhone 17 Air, which will be just 5.5 mm thick, is another one of the series' most noteworthy offerings. That would make it the thinnest iPhone ever made. On March 7, X (formerly Twitter) leaker Ice Universe claimed that the iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have the same dimensions as the iPhone 16 Pro Max.- Length: 163 mm
- Width: 77.6 mm
- Screen Size: 6.9 inches

Differences in Thickness Throughout the Lineup
Though the iPhone 17 Air is the most slender variant, the other iPhone 17 models will be minimally thicker. Tipster Majin Bu, who used internal Apple documents to leak the information, broke down the thickness of every model in the lineup:iPhone 17 Pro & Pro Max: ~8.6 mm
The extra thickness for the Pro and Pro Max models probably comes down to a bigger battery and more advanced camera system. By contrast, the iPhone 17 Air will have an ultra-thin chassis, requiring the miniaturisation of components, making it a design marvel.Major Camera Changes
The camera module is also receiving quite a radical design change. Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, while the standard iPhone 17 should get a similar camera layout as the iPhone 16, is going to get a drastically different camera system, which is similar to Google’s Pixel phones.

Upgrades for Display, Camera, and Storage
Based on a separate leak from OreXda on X, the display specs of both the iPhone 17 Air and Pro Max are going to be very close:- iPhone 17 Air: 6.7-inch panel, 2796 x 1290 pixel resolution
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9-inch display, 2868 x 1320 resolution
- Main Camera: 48 MP (the iPhone 17 Air & Pro Max)
- Front Camera: 12 MP (both models)

iPhone Air A Plus Replacement?
Apple’s Plus models have been hit or miss in recent years, and leaks indicate that its Plus models may be replaced by the new iPhone Air. Back in August, Apple analyst Mark Gurman claimed that the iPhone Air would be introduced alongside the iPhone 17 series.Apple’s “Air” branding is typically reserved for lighter and cheaper and less powerful versions of its flagship products, as in the iPad Air and MacBook Air. If this is indeed the case, the iPhone 17 Air could launch as a mid-tier offering — delivering a more premium look and feel than the standard offering, but not the premium price tag that the Pro are generally accompanied by.
When the Product Is Expected to Launch + Apple’s September Event
Apple generally announces new iPhone editions in September, and industry leakers speculate the same for the iPhone 17 series. Expect to see all four models—iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max—at the event, plus new iOS features and other Apple products. An iPhone 17 series with radical design alterations, a super-slim iPhone Air and extensive camera upgrades is looking like one of Apple’s most exciting launches yet.
