Mehdi Honardoost, speaking at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) in Islamabad, said Iran, having one of the largest gas reserves in the world, could become an indispensable asset for the CPEC.

Stating that Iran had gas resources available for 400 years of, Honardoost stated that Pakistan continues to be Tehran’s foremost target to market its gas.

Talking about CPEC, the Iranian ambassador said that the Chinese initiative should not only be seen as a trade or business venture, but as a ‘destiny-changer’ for the entire region.

“Iran has already done its part in extending the pipeline to the Pakistani border and we are looking forward to Pakistan that it will be completing its part as soon as possible to serve its own national interests,” Honardoost said.

The ambassador noted that Iran and Pakistan were historically and culturally one nation, having several commonalities in their concerns as well as interests.

He stressed that the two nations should be working together in areas such as trade, energy, regional peace as such cooperation will only yield mutually beneficial rewards.

Ambassador (retd) Khalid Mehmood, chairman of the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) who also served as an envoy in Iran, said that Pakistan and Iran have stood by each other in difficult times.

“There have been some ups and downs in their association at times but the essential relationship between the two countries has always remained intact,” he said.

“Like China, Pakistan’s relationship with Iran is also time-tested,” he remarked.

Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) many infrastructure projects are under construction throughout Pakistan.

Originally valued at $46 billion, the value of CPEC projects is now worth $ 62 billion.

The project will link Pakistani Gwadar port to China Xinjiang province.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have already expressed desire to join the connectivity project.

Indeed,

Gwadar will connect the Indian-ocean to China's industrial cities such as Xinjiang. Energy is a vital requirement for progress and development of that port and IP pipeline is the most cost-effective choice.

Moreover Iran has plans to join CPEC, and help Pak to achieve it's goals from that port. I hope pak side shows more interests to their Iranian counterparts which can result in development of Pakistan's economic factories/ports/cities.

It's supposed there's no progress in near future, Pakistan has to think about reaction from KSA which is in its ongoing political reform. However, this probably provide a good opportunity for Pakistan to sign a good deal for cheap energy from KSA.

Only those who Pakistan deem worthy will be allowed to invest in Pakistan.

Lol

How lucky is Pakistan?

KSA wants to participate too.

They will have direct investment as they have announced already.

The US is without a doubt the biggest cancer that we willingly let into this country. We are truly their vassal state.
