Investing in Education

$3 billion+ : Annual losses from largest Public Sector Enterprises in Pakistan.

The resources to invest in education are there - they need to be tapped/redirected to where they are needed.

Add in revenue from the 'unofficial economy' and 'un-taxed official economy', and we are potentially looking at billions of dollars more annually.

Of course all of the above resources being directed into the education sector on their own will not be enough - with the devolution of education to the provinces, the provincial governments need to set up autonomous education boards that reform the curriculum and education system to deliver high quality education and educational facilities, from kindergarten to research universities.

Stick to the topic please - as highlighted by the changed thread title.

The focus of discussion should be Pakistan, not India. India was used by the author only as a comparison.

.
We should not get carried away with this.

India is not anywhere near of being a successful state. This is showing more of Pakistani leadership's failure [no offence] rather India's success.

Our literacy rate is 74.04% and China's literacy rate is whooping 93.3%. [And Pakistan's 62.2 is anyone's wondering.]

I'm sure we're a democracy so we'll get there slowly but we too still have a lot to catch up on.

Why does this have to be about war? Why does it have to be compared to India's education sector? A country needs to have a strong education sector if it has to develop. Period.

strongly agreed

Education's biggest blocks is the QUOTA system. This makes the kids lazy of certain communities that are given special privilege. The QUOTA system also automatically means that getting a minimum level of certain marks will allow students to easily join reserved government seats and government jobs. THAT, is bad. That has to be removed. Every position in the country should be meritocratic for ALL the communities. The only reservations that should be made should be for physically differently abled people and people with limited mental capabilities that can do simple jobs. Other than that ALL QUOTA must be eliminated.

Secondly, Indian education has to be more research oriented rather than pure rote memorization. Even today after so much improvement, the general teaching mentality in India is that of memorizing stuff and then going and writing it down in exams and getting good grades. There is no research.. no why? no how? nothing. That is what causes retardation and regression of education system. Education system should explore questioning, discourage textbooks and encourage more self-exploring through laid-down conditions of basic sciences.

Almost all scientific discoveries made were accidents, barring a few very important ones. Once these education patterns are adopted rather than the needless, burdensome and imposing current structure, I tell you that education will easily be around 95% and that too useful education.

EDUCATION HAS TO BE DE-POLITICIZED. I AM SURE THIS EXISTS FOR PAKISTANI SYSTEM AS WELL. Both of us share the same problems.

Education
We have been educated over the passed fifty (50) years that an Education is important to our future success!
It is a fair statement when taken in context, if your a farmer, you study Ag!
Somewhere along the way we, the Americans, and all of you foreigners, have lost touch with that which is important, the cost of the Education and where in the xxxx you are going to get a job to repay all the money you spent getting it.
Now, if you are in the Military and have tuition assistance that will cover the complete cost, plus books etc, then it no problem....

The point that I wish to hopely bring you to is that foreign countries, shall we say Pakistan, for example, may need to educate ot offer an Education to their young people, but with certain restrictions:
1. That you create the Schools in Pakistan, or that you force the International Schools to Set up and operate schools in Pakistan.
2. You, Pakistan, need to come to sme realtime understanding of what your education needs are and suppor those subject
in order to meet your needs.
3. and, in order to maintain a real democatic state, allow and support Colleges & Universities for the Muslim, in Religion, and in other subjects. (If you cannot understand why I would suggest this, go to NW China or to Russia, where Muslims produce some of the brights candidates)
Where are the People going to work - to be employed? Start inventorying all of your imports, by Dollar value to make this decision. The make arrangement to give the company's a time period, 18, 24, 36 months to set up shop in Pakistan or you will replace them with a competitor and block imports. Look at your country from a real needs stand point and create businesses in Agriculture to the mind be your only limitation.....what you want to do (1) create jobs and Satisfy needs
They will assure success.
If you continue allowing you children to leave you country for a education...only you will understand and known the real cost.
Last, the Cost of Education. There is with Education at any level a cost. The Cost of Buildings, the Cost of Teachers, the Cost of Computer (Books are in the past)(All learn should be on-line and on the computer). The country that will be ultimately the most successful, is the country that passes this education on to its students at NO COST, or Minimal Cost.
Just check out what haapened in the US, granting WWII GI Bill, free College Education in 1946 and the changes to the US starting in mid 1950s.

I cannot say it enogh, you must reduce the brain drain from your country (hell my both of my Doctors are Pakistani) why...They are the Best! But, you have to educate them in Pakistan and keep them in Pakistan. Once they come to the US, UK, or where ever, the exposure to this Capitolist, Money Driven Society, with NO Morals will be the end of them.
