inventing the invisible | Herald Sun Richard Berry Blog
BTW, if you follow the link you will see an interesting picture.War is the mother of Invention. I wish she wasnt, but weve shown ourselves to be much better at coming up with ways to end, rather than save, lives. I suppose its what makes us us. Weve been like this since we had hands and feet.
And now we have an invisible tank, well we dont but the British do, but thats ok because were on their side, at the moment.
Yep, British military chiefs have announced that they have worked out a way to cloak a tank using cameras and projectors. As I understand it the cameras take footage of the area behind the vehicle and its then screened on the other side of the tank, so yeah it appears that 30 tonnes of metal isnt there.
This technology is incredible, a soldier who was at the trials (there were trials?!) says.
If I hadnt been present I wouldnt have believed it. I looked across the fields and just saw grass and trees - but in reality I was staring down the barrel of a tank gun.
Christ. This is the scariest thing I have ever heard.
The tank is expected to be operational by 2012. The man behind the technology Professor Sir John Pendry, of Imperial College London wants to go one step futher.
The next stage is to make the tank invisible without them - which is intricate and complicated, but possible, Pendry says.
