Dream comes True: Buy Tata Nano homes at Rs 32,000

New Delhi, Jul 16: Dreaming of a new home? If you have Rs 32,000 in pocket, you can buy your dream home! Tata Group is launching a new housing plan in rural areas at Rs 32,000. How to Book Tata Nano Homes?

"At present, the housing project is in the pilot stage in 30 locations spread across the country and we are in discussions with various agencies like Coir Board, Jute Board and also State governments," Sumitesh Das, head global research programme of Tata Steel, said.

The house for Rs 32,000 will be made in pre-fabricated, or 'prefab', format. Tata Group will provide a kit consisting of roofs, doors, windows, etc, which can be erected or assembled.

Company said that there are two models, the basic model at Rs 32,000 with 20 sq metres and the upgraded model at Rs 44,000 with 30 sq metres. If you have a patch of land, the house can be built in seven days. The company is also planning other models with a solar panel on the roof of the house.

The 2001 census places the rural housing shortage figure in India at 1.48 crore and the situation may prove to be a big bonanza for the Tatas. "In the first pilot project, we saw the interest of people in verandah which we have incorporated, though it was not there earlier. We thought if we incorporate verandah, the buying will be much higher. We need feedback from panchayats, who are our final customers," Sumitesh Das added.

Tata announces world’s cheapest (flatpack) house
By Brett Davis | July 18th, 2011

Tata Group, the company behind the ‘world’s cheapest car’ the Tata Nano, has announced the development of its latest product: the ‘Nano’ flatpack house. Yes, Tata is now looking to claim the title of offering the world’s cheapest house on the market.

Dubbed the Nano house, the flatpack dwelling comes with pre-fabricated materials, including doors and windows, for a house of around 20 square metres in size. Materials consist of coconut or jute cladding complete with interior layouts. The proposed price of the ready-to-assemble kit is said to be just $US700 (around AU$660).

Tata is also developing a larger 30 square metre home with optional extras, such as a front verandah and a solar energy system. Head of the house project at Tata, Sumitesh Das, recently said at the announcement,

“We have already prepared two to three different designs based on discussions with users and are gathering more feedback. Hopefully, in the next six to eight months we should be able to roll it out in the market nationally.”

Tata says the homes will be sold to those living in village areas and could also be sold to councils in bulk that are looking to build up areas. Mr Das also said the company was bouncing ideas off local councils to develop the most suitable style homes.

The houses are said to have a life expectancy of around 20 years.
