What's new

Internet users in Bangladesh double in last five years

It's a contingency measure to counter the usual Indian ulterior motive.

It works well for me and my section, I keep trolls out.
Sometimes it is better to learn about others perspective even if you think there is an ulterior motive. I for one learnt that I am living by pretty cheap in India compared to Bangladesh.

@Atlas How are mobile data plans compared to this? We get unlimited phone calls too.

Nah actually no comparison! Internet in India is a huge benefit I see now.
Btw currently in my Robi app a plan is available ( best at this moment) and that is 600 min and 25gb + 5gb data , validity 30 days, price is 530 tk with 27 tk cash back ! Oops ! Although I had offer of 1gb with 10 tk everyday for long time ,but that's no longer available.

There are weekly cheaper packages though but not nearly as impressive as India packages that you have posted .

Btw if you get unlimited phone call then what are these 100 min or 300 mins and so on ?

Sorry, I forgot. It is unlimited with in Jio (400 million users). And to make calls with other mobile operators there is a limit placed. I have never used my quota yet. Additional minutes are charged at 6 paise per minute. So a rupee will get you 17 minutes. You can recharge your account for a 100 and get 1700 minutes (there is no expiry date to such recharge).

Ah that's really great plan I have to admit.

However I would say we are enjoying much better broadband internet and mobile plans ( including call rates ) compared to former BNP Jamat govt .

But minimumcall charge during this govt was 25 poisa per min once .

Later mob operators requested govt to set the limit of lowest call rate to 50 p per minute. That really sucks .

Although the lowest rate is excluding vat and not for everyone .

Operators just provide them as offers.

So yes in this case of lowest call rate govt served the purpose of mobile operators instead of people .That's not good.

But other than this one ,we are overall much better than past days .

and we are actually happy for such convenience, because since India is huge market so we shall not expect such huge benefits.

But probably we want some improvement for sure.

In India, you buy a 20 rupees lays chip packet, you get 2GB data. Thats how cheap it is here. All because of Mukesh Ambani.

Hopefully, all that cheap internet is being put to good use.

I want internet to not be that cheap in Bangladesh, I know what these morons will do, If they get dirt cheap internet.

Keep it expensive and out of reach of village goons. We are going to get fibre optic connections in all schools by 2023, Kids can use internet at school for education, no need to come home and watch movies and so on.

Have you not seen what is happening in India lately? It is not because of Modi. Every Tom and Dick with a opinion is gaining access and making his presence felt on the internet. Some brought their insecurities, some their khattar traditions.

Give it time, they all will learn internet etiquette and will settle down. But it has been great too, from South Cinemas getting popular in Bangladesh and Nepal, to many digital startups raising money in billions of dollars, to foreigners (even Pakistanis) jostling to review Indian content all happened because of such cheap internet. Internet is the society these days.

Take a look at Byjus app or Whitehat jr. Kids are getting to learn from Internet. Byjus happened to be a $15 billion unicorn all because of such access.

Now many villages have fiber optics . Just price is high . And actually village People aren't dirt poor like past days .

However one connection can be bought by a friend group ( let's say 10/12 people) and they can use internet and download something that you are afraid of .

Besides if friend circle by it , then there is no hiding , one will download fast and will serve others by pen drive , simple solution.

Not expecting such cheap internet in Bangladesh ,but dirt cheap internet is not going to make huge difference I think.

But if you mean something other ( like political disability) then it's not possible in Bangladesh without leaders .

Bengalis were never brave people to rebel against authority.

So you can control any movement by controlling it's leaders .

BNP is the classic example. ;)

I just noticed the bore on that handgun, WTF??

I that a toy or a BB Gun?

It's a PeePee gun.

Goes with the whole B0Bs & Vangene theme

I have a very good comment in mind, quite clever (if you ask me) but I don't want to get banned and it's a little too crass for my Aziz Reza inspired persona on here.... :)

Internet should be dirt cheap and always available. It should be considered basic rights along with food water and electricity.

It is a great leveller and whatever negative by product there maybe, these do not come to anywhere near the benefit derived from easy access to education, medical advise, commodity prices, quicker communication, instant money transfer, online market places would bring to Bangladesh.
