Intermediate Jet Trainer Awaits Spin Test | AVIATION WEEK
Indias Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) will enter its crucial spin test phase very soon.
The spin program for IJT will be conducted with an anti-spin parachute behind the fin, a source tells AVIATION WEEK. This is part of the Indian air forces Air Staff Requirements. Spin is a very involved program and consists of different types of entries and recoveries. If the trainee pilot mishandles the aircraft, he must know how to recover. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. builds the IJT.
IJT PT-2 is being readied for the test. The mounting of the AL55-I engine, the anti-spin parachute system (ASPS) and other equipment is now underway. The program is set to enter the final phase of certification in December.
The flights up to limited series production-12 will happen in Bengaluru [formerly Bangalore] and the series production will be at the Kanpur facility, a source adds. So far, the IJTs have logged 515 flights.
The IJT recently completed hot weather trials (HWTs) in Jaisalmer. It was the first HWTs with the AL-55I Russian engine, while similar trials were held in Nagpur in 2006 with the Snecma Larzac, a source says. The platform had met all the technical and system performance specifications during HWTs. The environmental system air-conditioning inside the cockpit, environmental control systems, and factors for pilot comforts were checked.
