I don't consider myself an authority to discuss the merits or otherwise of the respective country's position and I am sure it has been done to death here.

Anyway our perception will be colored by our country's position which is right, legal and moral in both our opinions. Discussing that will only hijack the thread needlesssly.

Just one point, which country in South Asea has been attacked by India? Its not that India gets its way with all of them all the time but military force has never been used as a solution. I think its just a perception that India seeks a policeman role in SA. I guess we would be smart enough to know what a thankless job that is.

That pretty much sums it up for a large majority on both sides.

Regarding being liked by the neighbors, you may be right but it is a much more complex situation and does not depend only on India's actions as you would realize.

Most Pakistanis think that they have stood by Afghans during their worst hour. Are you liked by them? In fact there are hardly any large countries that are popular with their smaller neighbors.

I would rather not get involved in India-Pak disputes or contentious topics now as I am too new here. Would like to get a hang of the place and the people around before taking a position on those issues but obviously our opinions will be colored by our respective backgrounds.

Wilco, I am not trying to run down any country here. Just trying to point out that the situation is complex. You don't have any negative emotions for people who are away from you, it is reserved mainly for your neighbors. You are not a neighbor of any SA country.

Regrading the Afghans liking you, well I guess we are getting our info from very different sources. It is just to point out that human beings are complex and they may not behave as you would expect them to normally.

You would expect Afghans to be eternally grateful to you and same may be said by Indians regarding the Bangladeshis!
