Intel to install second production line at Vietnam factory: CEO

Technology is imported.

ICDREC, established in 2005, is one of the nation's leading centers in training and transferring technology for the IC industry. Located in Ho Chi Minh City, the centre has long been known for its successful design of the 8, 16 and 32-bit chips, used for many handling and telecommunication devices.

design, not fabrication. I don't think you understand the fundamentals of the semiconductor industry.

China still can't produce world-class high technology CPU,too.
Plz don't make fun as laughing at others, especially when they are making progress.

depends on what you mean by "world class" and what you mean by "CPU". If you mean x86 CPUs used in desktop/laptop PCs, then you are right. If you mean any processor whatsoever, then what about mobile processors such as Huawei's HiSilicon line? Or what about the Feiteng chips used in the Tianhe supercomputers? Do you recognize the difference between even Intel Saigon, and Intel Dalian?

What I mean by Vietnam not being able to manufacture CPUs is not an exaggeration, but a statement of fact: not a single wafer is processed in Vietnam.

You should not think that China and Vietnam are on the same level. It is *not even close*. Just as saying the Earth is flat is wrong, it is also wrong to say that the Earth is a sphere, but it is absolutely stupid to say that both statements are equally wrong - one is clearly less wrong than the other.

Finally a nice Chinese
Looking forward to your Positive contributions to the forum man

seem you are the expert in this field.

can you tell me which companies in the business make CPU design? Intel, IBM, Samsung, Apple or Qualcomm?
No, it is ARM. the british company dominates the market, it designs and licences their RISC energy saving CPUs. So for example nearly all producers of smart phones and tablet computers use ARM microprocessors.

judging your posts I suggest you change your nick name to biased troller.

nice that you can design CPUs. but I fail to understand why do you feel the need to make stupid statements on vietnam progress? oh...I can tell you. more reasons to laugh: there are a lot of things we are behind China.

RISC is an instruction set architecture, it is not a CPU. CPU design refers to the physical chip layout, which Intel, Samsung, and Qualcomm actually do.

Vietnam can design chips at the physical chip layout level.

However, what it cannot do is fabricate those chips. Intel does that. Qualcomm cannot.

Also, Intel doesn't use the RISC architecture, it uses x86.

This plant does not process a single wafer of silicon from wafer to device. That's all I'm saying. It depends on imports of processed devices from elsewhere.

Hmm I can only find US, Taiwan, Japan, Europe, Singapore and China on these 2 rankings :cheesy:

I'd like to see Vietnam increase its investment in R&D, but gaining access to more manufacturing jobs is nothing to complain about. Good to see more and more companies seeing an opportunity in Vietnam!!! In this instance I say ignore the naysayers (they know who they are) and congrats to Vietnam.

Well said man. Vietnam is indeed doing quite well attracting companies/multinationals from the west/U.S/Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong and even China. Its really encouraging to see the government taking measures to ease FDI, though as you mentioned they need to increase their R&D to make full use of this investments and move up the ladder chain. Other major countries in the region who ought to be the obvious choice for these investments should take good note and act quick(Yes India im looking at you.lol:D), else they will be left behind/miss the manufacturing Bus yet again.:disagree: Anyway good for Vietnam. Keep it up guys.

Wow...wow...you seem to be one of the few sane Chinese members i have seen on here make such a comment/observation. Are you new on here bro.?:-) I admire what you just said(not many members here are courageous/bold enough to challenge what their country men said wrong). so kudos to that.

As you rightly said i dont understand why some of your brothers make such comments, ihe seems to be justifying his denigrating comments(which he himself acknowledged.lool) on a Vietnamese member saying the same thing about China.loool I just dont understand how some of us here react sometimes, just because someone indulged in trolling you also have to do the same? Jeez...i thought we were all adults on here, some mebers here really behave as if we kids in primary school. Its indeed surprising. Why will a country like China first of all compare itself with a much smaller country like Vietnam in the first place?:disagree: That is insecurity to be honest. Just because somebody said something bad, doesnt mean you should also do the same, doing so makes you no better than him, so you cant complain either. However learning to avoid insults/denigrating others/paying back with the same insults makes people respect you and understand that what they did was indeed wrong/retrospect. Indulging in the same bad behaviour like others(and even admitting it later.lol) just makes you even lower than the person who made the silly/bad comment in the first. :disagree: I just wish some of us here can make constructive comments instead of always indulging in personal attacks/insults/mutual denigration of others progress, this applies to Indians, Vietnamese, Chinese and pakistanis members here. Though im afraid i wont live to see that day.

Anyway congrats again to Vietnam, they should keep making reforms to attarct more manufacturing companies to set up shop in the country, with time they willlearn to produce these goods themsleves, provided the government plans/implement its policies properly and focus on vocotional training, eductaion, mprove infrastructure and R&D. If countries like south Korea, Taiwan who are all confucian societies were able to do it, so too can Vietnam. Keep up the good work Vietnam and dont let what others try to put you down say, even though they themselves went through the same low grade assembly before manufacturing process like you. Keep up the Good work Vietnam.

If countries like south Korea, Taiwan who are all confucian societies were able to do it, so too can Vietnam.

Vietnam started its economic reforms in 1984. China did so in 1979. South Korea did so in 1968.

Today is 30 years since Vietnam started reforms. Where is it economically?

Where was South Korea in 1998?

Where was China in 2009?

Compare technology levels and scientific achievements.

It has nothing to do with being Confucian. It all has to do with emphasis on scientific achievement. Traditionally, Vietnam did not have the concept of "science". They were people who saw achievement in farming and small trade, while China was at the forefront of ancient and medieval technology.
