KARAYEL Tactical UAV System is the first armed UAV designed and manufactured in accordance with NATO's 'Airworthiness in Civil Airspace' Standard STANAG-4671 for reconnaissance and surveillance.

The KARAYEL system has a unique triple redundant distributed avionics architecture that provides protection against all kinds of uncontrolled crashes.

With this feature, VESTEL brought systematic error safety, which has been used only in manned aviation worldwide, to a UAV for the first time with KARAYEL. Thanks to the aluminum mesh on the aircraft composite structure, it has also lightning protection feature.

In cases where icing conditions are encountered, the "Ice Removal System" is used, which automatically detects it and activates. With this feature, KARAYEL is resistant to all kinds of weather conditions and shows superior performance in harsh weather conditions.

It has the ability to detect and identify the target with the camera system it carries for aerial reconnaissance and surveillance, and to direct the marker systems and laser-guided munitions on it.

Vestel Karayel, which was previously leased and used by the Turkish Armed Forces, was later exported to Saudi Arabia Armed Forces. If Vestel Karayel export to Hungary finalized, It will be second UCAV export to a NATO country.

The total take-off weight of the system is around 640kg, and it can carry a payload of around 170kg. Within the typical mission profile flight altitude, can stay in the air for +20 hours.

In the latest images shared with the press, two loitering/kamikaze munition/drone are seen on the pylons of the Karayel-SU system.

In the Karayel-Su system on display, 3 Mam-C smart munitions, 2 mini loitering munitions, and 1 Mam-L are shown. E/Os under the fuselage and SATCOM radome above. The system can also carry a modular SAR pod and other specialized electronic warfare pods.

. . . .
Was already Saudi Arabia producing this drone?
Yes, it is produced locally by the AEC company. Within the scope of the agreement, 40 KARAYEL-SU will be produced under the name HABOOB and the system will be able to operate for 20 hours with 4 MAM-Ls.

But ofc no ToT for MAM-ls? There is a good potential cooperation between Turkey UAE and KSA. KSA and UAE have the funds and you the experience. But the emirati and saudi defense industry is being prosperous and a lot of fruitful projects.

Theoretically UAE could do the same on the Reach-s drone.

Recently there was a Saudi Taqnia SATCOM added to increase range further.

“Integration of capabilities to link our UAVs to the satellites were done in cooperation with Taqnia Space, and test flights of Haboob UAV after the integration was successful and the drone was able to fly 200 km beyond line of sight due to satellite linking through its antenna,” director of Technology and Engineering Solutions, Asim Qureshi told Breaking Defense.

The Haboob, is a Saudi unmanned aerial vehicle, and it is a locally-built derivative of the Turkish drone Vestel Karayel-SU.

The two Saudi organizations are working on using SGS1 Nilesat, a satellite purpose-built for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that’s expected to support military communication.

Despite some political problems, UAE has traditionally been among the top 3 customers of the Turkish defense industry. UAE became the address of some of the major sales of the Turkish defense industry, not only as components and subsystems, but especially on the basis of the main platform or within the scope of shifting production and supporting local production.

Defense cooperation with the KSA, which is the main power center of the region, has great potential, but this relationship is too important to be left to its fate by tertiary factors due to the potential consequences of the strategic rapprochement of both countries. Although low-level collaborations continued, efforts to develop and manufacture common platforms on a strategic scale were mostly fruitless. Again, for example, while SADEC, which was established with the cooperation of TAQNA-Aselsan, could play a strategic role in strengthening the established defense industry in KSA, political barriers are probably preventing the company from making the necessary breakthrough.

  • IR (Infrared) Night Camera
  • Laser Range Finder (LRF)
  • Laser Pointer (LP)
  • Laser Designator (LD)
SATCOM
In order to enhance capabilities of state-of-the-art KARAYEL UAV System, Lentatek has been committed to the efficient development and integration activities with new generation payload systems. In this respect, KARAYEL with successfully integrated satellite control (SATCOM) system offers target detection, monitoring and destruction capabilities autonomously and independent from range restrictions at beyond line of sight operations.

AIS
Automatic Identification System (AIS) integrated to KARAYEL UAV System ensures to detect identification information of all maritime vessels from high altitudes to transfer all obtained radar, imaging and intelligence information to Command and Control Centres in real-time.

SAR/ISAR
Synthetic-Aperture Radar/Inverse Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR/ISAR) enables KARAYEL to operate in all kinds of weather conditions, and to perform imaging and moving target detection in rainy and cloudy weather.
