MUZAFFARNAGAR: In another controversial edict, Darul Uloom Deoband said that it is un-Islamic to install CCTV cameras.
In response to a query made by a Maharashtra-based Muslim if it was okay to install CCTV cameras in a shop or a place where there is movement of a lot of people, a three-cleric panel of the fatwa department of the world-renowned Islamic seminary, said, “There are many other ways to ensure safety of a commercial establishment or a home. In Shariat, it is un-Islamic to shoot a picture. Consequently, even the CCTV is un-Islamic.”

The edict came in response to a question asked by Abdulla Majid, a businessman from Maharashtra.

Several controversial fatwas have been issued by the Deoband ulemas in 2018. Earlier, one fatwa issued by them stated that women wearing designer and body-hugging burqa is ‘haraam’ and not allowed in Islam at all. A bench of muftis had after religious celebrations issued a fatwa on the issue stating, ‘Veil and burqa are supposed to protect a woman from prying eyes. So, a woman wearing a designer burqa or body-hugging outfit is strictly not allowed in Islam.”

In yet another development, Deoband ulemas had criticised 15-year-old Alia Khan of Meerut for reciting Bhagwad Gita slokas at a contest organised by the state government in Lucknow. She won a prize at the contest.

After that, they issued another controversial fatwa, in which the seminary asked Muslim families to avoid marrying men or women working in banks as the money earned through interest is illegitimate in the eyes of Islam.

I agree

Its unethical.

Unislamic is not the debate for me

. . .
They will eventually ban everything for the sake of preserving the purity of religion.

There would be no enjoyment left on earth for a believer and the only salvation would be to go to heaven after death.

Pathetic..!

No wonder these clerics pray for the judgement day to come closer.

Meh, only the CCTV one was stupid. The others are fine, albeit controversial.

Cctv cameras are against privacy.

Instead of your outbursts.

Answer me a simple question.

How is privacy legally defined and how in consent legally defined in the constitution of India.

P.s. i am in Troll Modus. Be careful

The word privacy is heavily misused...Public places should all be monitored by video...it ll be easy for security agencies to nab anti social and terrorist people through video monitoring...

You are assuming that the state has automatic consent of the people. That is a legal problem.

Security is always different.

Privacy and its limits are debatable, but in a business it’s the owners decision to install cctvs, you either go in or stay out.
Modern technology should be used for security purposes at every possible opportunity.

Bcuz of these kinds of mullahs, Islam's interpretation is going through a time period analogous to that of when Christianity was going through geocentrism(and the likes). Not only are such fatwas baseless and wrong, they also portray Islam negatively in the eyes of the world.

The whole concept of not drawing pictures(drawing was the closest thing to taking pictures back then) was to ban polytheism(shirk).

During those days, the pagans used to draw pictures of their gods. Moreover, in certain other practices, they would also sometimes hold the drawn pictures of their ancestors or some other key figure in high regard...out of respect or whatever other reason that could in time turn in to some level of worship. That is the lesson here...and yet ppl tend to stick to the wrong meaning of it. They would refrain from taking pictures and then go to some sufi shrine and hope their prayers are heard(thinking that these holy ppl can intercede on their behalf...kind of a borderline shirk).

In conclusion...there is nothing wrong with a CCTV camera if it's being used for the purposes of safety. The recorded footage can be used as evidence if a crime is committed, it can help lead to the perpetrators, etc. There is nothing unislamic about it.

everything has different usage which could be right or wrong ... same is the case with CCTV,... for instance someone has a knife at home .. if he use it to cut the fruit or vegetables .. its a good use ... on the other hand if some one use it to kill people .. its the wrong use of the same instrument...
