Inside India's defence acquisition mess

Perhaps discussing peace would be a cheaper option

No doubt, but as long as China is keep raising force at north easter borders and as long as Pakistan is building more and more nukes, India has to pay for it's security.
Peace is not a one way solution, both (in this case all 3) sides have to work on it, but that's obviously not what all parties wants isn't it?

Actually, it's much more complex with China which has to deal with the USA as well.

Not really, because I am not against Chinas military build up or modernisation in general, but against their build up in Tibet which is only aimed at us! That's a threat to our security and therefor we had no choice the react and do the same.
If China wanted a peaceful relation with us, they would have acknowledged that India is a rising military power, but would either tried to find a political solution without an arms race, or better, bind us to them as partners to improve Asia (inluding Russia) compared to the west. That's what the US did, because they saw it is not in their interest anymore to be against India because of Pakistan or our relations to Russia and that our economical growth is a big chance for them as well.

Agreed. China sees themselves as the future Superpower and Asian Leader and India is the only country in their path.

True. Not much left to argue.
But that's where it becomes so complex. Our relationship with the Chinese has improved by a great deal in the recent past. Also, we have been increasing [or atleast it seemed that way] our strategic ties with the US and they see us as a counter to China and the Chinks know it. Now they've had the massive military infrastructure in TAR much before India started to warm up to the US, but that [Indo-US ties] is what will prevent the Chinese from even thinking of reducing it in the future or putting more faith in India than it already has.
In the end it's a case of flawed perceptions and unneccesary mistrust but nothing much can be done about it[ atleast not IMO].

They are the only future Asian superpower, neither Russia and by far not India will keep up with them, but that doesn't mean we need to fight them. Our economical relations to them are good, in terms of foreign politics (BRICS or AESAN) we are working together and both countries would benefit if we would have a peaceful relation or even a closer partnership, but that's not possible if you pose a threat at the same time. It's up to China to decide what they want in regard to India!

India had always tried to have a balanced relationship with other countries, that's why we have good relations to Israel, while still be in political and economical relations to Iran as well. Similarly, we could handle US and China too, but the real issue is the build up in Tibet as long as we can't get to limitation of force on both sides of the border, this will always pose a threat and there will always be a chance for war.

I also not see India as a future superpower. China can have all the glory of being one, but there is no denying that we have our interests and China should respect them. Its better we have a gentleman's agreement that PRC should stay out of Indian Ocean Region and Indian will stay out of East Asia and South China Sea , but China doesn't seem to be in the mood and is trying hard to contain India.
