INS Kochi, India's Deadliest Warship, Set to Join Fleet Today

Nuke sub, cough cough! Carrier that hides during wars? The CVGN capability is only getting realistic in IN now. Please stop the flag waving and piss on the wall contest.

The warship signifies many indigenous systems from India, which signifies the enabling maturity of the Indian defence industry.

Is P8 going to operate from INS Kochi? Does it have any range or fuel considerations? Does it fly fast or slow? Is it a target itself?

Neutral argument is that both IN and PN diesel electrics will have impunity from all the systems you mention, due to the difficult sound propagation characteristics of the Arabian sea. All the surface platforms, the current one included, will be targets only.
Nope P-8Is will fly from Goa/Mumbai/Gujarat and still be be able to map Arabian Sea for hours during ASW mission. Kamorta class ASW corvette and S-70B on board Kolkata class will do their part.
And about submarine part, they have their sets of limitations too like they are slower so can't chase or catch up a surface warship and rather have to wait and watch it to come close that too with a hope of not being detected. Not to forget if warships passes from more than say 50 kms, It can't do nothing unless it risks getting itself detected by chasing.

One has to understand that both submarines and surface warships have their sets of advantages and disadvantages. One simply can't counter everything by submarine or vice versa.

From MPA, the ASW mission is through expendable Sonobuoys, DIFAR/DICASS and the works, and there are many other limitations. It is not as easy as a video game.

If you ask a submariner, they will say that there are only submarines, and targets.

In the same way, A submarine can't just chase a surface warship. All it expect is to wait for it to be close enough. BY the way you forgot MAD.

I have not forgotten an airborne magnetic anomaly detector as you mention, rather I am familiar with its operation and limitations. Submarines in a war situation will already be deployed on both sides, waiting for targets to come in range. Ships don't chase submarines, they launch helos. A ship chasing a submarine is only chasing a loud undex bubble.

Exactly. All a submarine can do is to expect target to come near it (that too it can only hope) while not getting detected. Thus I will never say that submarine is a solution for every warship. Not to forget Ships have their counter measures like towed sonars, asw helis etc.

My friend, and you can shoot back through the internet too, though you may miss. This is a large impressive surface platform, which seems to have everything that is available in the catalog, but in a potential conflict in the arabian sea, it will not be facing surface or air targets, ASMs in particular, which it seems to have defence capability. It will be facing Submarines. Now you will argue that it has a bow mounted sonar, but I am sure you have no idea about the notorious sea propagation characteristics of the wretched Arabian, the S curves and thermoclines, rendering diesel electrics at such db level that a surface sonar cannot detect.

Am i touching the sun, or you think I have some experience in Naval warfare to comment on the bombastic design? As a guided missile destroyer, the ship is impressive. however at the GRT it is displacing, it is a huge target to a submarine.

Without Prejudice.

Just wait till our very own Tor Buster hard kill defense system comes online.

It has 2 sonar systems. The humsa-NG bow mounted passive sonar. You are correct, passive sonars are less effective in shallow waters. However you completely forgot it will also have the german ACTAS active towed array sonar which can detect submarines in such waters ine xcess of 60 kms, longer than the range of heavyweight torpedoes. The ACTAS is amongst the best systems in this class and active sonar is fully effective even in arabian sea.First 6 systems have already been recieved earlier this year.10 more being acquired and 20 more license produced for major future warships.

Finally it also has 2 helicopters each with their own sonobouys and dipping sonar.
The ship itself has heavyweight torpedoes and RBU launchers. The RBU launchers can also destroy incoming torpedoes. It also has torpedo and missile decoy systems onboard.

Finally the barak-8 is designed to intercept supersonic sea skimmers like yakhont,it can effectively deal with subsonic sea skimmers like exocet/c-802 which the PN submarines might launch. So the submarine is not just the hunter,it is also the prey.

i think some of you are offended, that i have insulted Kochi and its funding flag waving patriotic bunch. It is not the case. Anyway, good luck with your ship.
