KARACHI: Infighting within the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s top leadership caused harm to the party’s reform agenda, admitted Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Monday.

In an interview with Voice of America, the minister said he got to spend a lot of time with Prime Minister Imran Khan in Nathiagali recently where they discussed matters related to the governance.

Referring to Imran Khan’s recent remarks in Karachi about the chief minister becoming a dictator, Mr Chaudhry said the prime minister’s ideas were very clear on matters such as the NFC Award and judicial and police reforms.

However, he pointed out, ideas alone were not enough to bring about change because the prime minister needed a team to implement them.

“Frankly, bickering among Jehangir Tareen, Asad Umar and Shah Mehmood Qureshi has pushed the political class out of the game. The political vacuum created by the infighting was filled up with new people who were not from a political background,” he said.

“Imran’s core team fell apart. The new people are frankly not aligned with his idea and maybe don’t have the capacity to do so. The infighting has caused a lot of harm to the party, especially its political cadre,” he added.

Alluding to the government’s perceived failure, the minister said that when the internal team was weak, then one could not focus on external politics. And this was the reason that the PTI had not been able to implement its reforms agenda, he said.

“Look at the parliamentary leadership and the provincial leadership. Can you expect civilian supremacy from this leadership?” he asked.

“When Asad Umar was the finance minister, Jahangir Tareen made all the efforts to have him removed. When Asad Umar returned, he cut off Tareen. Though Shah Mehmood Qureshi met Tareen several times [for reconciliation], the infighting didn’t stop and bureaucrats took over,” the minister said.

I thought Asad Umar was a decent guy and there are only two groups of JKT and SMQ

"His tenure at Engro has certainly been a remarkably successful one. When Umar took over as President and CEO of the company in January 2004, Engro was largely just a fertiliser manufacturer with a small petrochemical subsidiary. Under his leadership, however, the company turned into a diversified industrial conglomerate, with interests ranging from fertilizers, foods, petrochemicals, chemical storage, energy and commodity trading.

Small wonder, then, that Dawood was effusive in his praise of Umar when announcing the departure to the company’s employees, noting that under his leadership, Engro’s revenues had grown from just Rs13 billion in 2004 to Rs114 billion in 2011, growing at an annualised rate of nearly 36.4%. (Inflation during that time averaged 12.6% per year.)"

Engro Internal Rift

The expansion was planned by the then President and CEO Engro, Asad Umar, but the whole corporation came into trouble after he and another board member and CEO of Engro Fertilizers Khaild Mansoor, who also resigned from his post recently, was underimmense grilling of the fellow board members.

Asad Umar and Khalid Mansoor were reportedly at loggerhead on the issue of Engro Fertilizers slow production but both were also come under immense grilling of fellow board members.

Few of them said that the expansion plan was a failed plan and it proved to be complete disasters to entire corporation because the legal battle seems to be delayed for longer period and gas supplies will be volatile and uninterrupted for the fertilizers plant.

“Asad Umar found it opportunity to leave the company in the situation, which is though not very bad at present but it will be worse in future. So, Asad prevented himself from facing all blame in coming months,” a friend of Asad said on the condition of anonymity.

Inko kya chahye humse? They asked for votes and We brought them in power to HELP us and the country ,not further their own agendas.

this is where the problem lies. Pakistanis are all about individualism, not collabarting together to provide collective action to improve country’s situation.

Have been saying for a long time that these guys are very ambitious people with personal links in “high places”. SMQ and Asad Umer, and also JKT.

All want to be PM, and each has their own camps within the party. There’s also the inner PTI KPK camp, but that’s another matter.

Infighting happens in most parties, that’s not what the issue here is IMO. It’s a slightly related matter that ought to be more concerning and eye-opening to some.

PTI is like a proper democratic party where multiple leaders have aspirations of being the big guy. Leaders don't become leaders just by being another cog in the machinery.

Obviously this is a foreign concept for patwaris and jiyalas who are slaves to the Sharifs and Bhuttos. Only a Sharif can head PML-N and only a Bhutto can head PPP. No wonder 32 year old hijra is head of PPP barking every day in his feminine voice while leaders like Aitzaz Ahsan and Qamar Zaman Kaira have no hope of ever leading the party. Then we have the Sharif fiefdom, NS after having three terms as PM handed over his party to brother and daughter. Daughter is also training her son to be next leader so that ghulaams like @Tameem and @Jungibaaz can kiss his feet and do sajda in front of him.

Petty politics aside, doesn't change the fact that Engro grew under him.

I sometimes feel for political veterans like Aitzaz Ahsan, singing praises for Bilawal or someone who has 40+ years of political experience in PML-N harping on about how Mariyam Nawaz is the savior of all Pakistan. Like BC tmhara kaam kia hai?

All politicians in PML-N and PPP are cucks and slaves.

His timings are important when BNP has already left PTI coalition govt

He himself wanted to become CM of Punjab ....this Fawad guy is waiting to leave PTI and I believe he soon will be kicked out from his ministry too. Internal rifts are known within the party for a long time even before 2018 elections than why he wants to bring it on media with time to time.

On the other hand, Imran Khan has become oblivion to the fact that he is not only loosing grip on the party but his govt as well. No ally of PTI is happy with them. Imran Khan himself doesn't want to meet anyone. He is living in his own lala land while his ministers are busy in fighting each other. Even during corona crisis, IK keep saying that CMs didn't listened him and went for complete lockdown , I mean like wtf, if they were not listening him than he should had stamped his authority and should had said no to lock down clearly. Sadly, PTI has turned out to be a disappointment but having said that there is no other choice than him either.

Leave them, they attack him because after Imran Khan, he is most likely to become a PM from PTI. They feel insecure from him. They were jumping up and down in extreme happiness when Asad was removed. Good that he is back and stomping his authority within the party.

Main fight was between these two, Asad Umer has his own ambitions too.
These three only protecting there interest and reputation. SMQ and JT issue is obvious. But Asad Umer statement about Steel Mill de-nationalization was uncalled. When govt paying 10,000 employee for the closed mill.

I agree here, one thing I still prefer about PTI for now is the lack of family dynasty politics and nepotism in upper leadership. But I would caution that many parties start out this way and veer towards that negative trait over time.

I agree on the principle here you’ve said, adding to what you said, this actually makes these parties way weaker and easy to control. Establishment wants closed door deal making and capitulation? Supporters and lower downs won’t give it, speak to the family it’ll get done. Throw them in jail, the whole party goes kaput without any life left in them. Not to mention that family politics is the exact opposite of meritocracy, this and nepotism promotes corruption/conflict of interest and incompetence.

Daughter is also training her son to be next leader so that ghulaams like @Tameem and @Jungibaaz can kiss his feet and do sajda in front of him.
You never seem to miss an opportunity to lower your posts in this way. If this is what you choose to do, I won’t attack you in reciprocation, I’ll practice restraint. Pls feel free to wallow in mud if this is pleasing to you, I won’t be joining you.
