Industrial park to be set up in Faisalabad: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N government is working speedily on mega projects of public welfare, and energy projects are being completed even before the stipulated period.
The chief minister said that transparency, standard and speed are the hallmark of all uplift projects and added that the foundation stone of the Ruyi Masood Textile Industrial Park will be laid in Faisalabad on May 28, while the foundation stone of two coal-fired power projects of 660MW each in Sahiwal, which are to be executed with the cooperation of China, will be laid on May 30.
Shahbaz said the Nandipur power project will be inaugurated on May 31 and will produce 100MW of electricity in the first phase. He was presiding over a high level meeting which reviewed mega projects of public welfare. Provincial Minister for Industry Muhammad Shafiq, chief secretary, senior member Board of Revenue, additional chief secretary, Planning and Development chairman, Special Assistant Azmul Haq and officials concerned were present in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that a state-of-the-art industrial park that is to be set up in Faisalabad with the cooperation of a prominent Chinese group, Ruyi, is of key importance for the development of textile and garments sectors. He said that this project will generate hundreds of thousands of jobs while substantially increasing export of textile products. Shahbaz said that the Chinese group will also establish two coal-fired power plants of 150MW in the industrial park.
He said that the Chinese group is making investment of billions of dollars in the Ruyi Masood Industrial Park, spread over an area of more than thousand acres. He further said that most modern coal power plants will be set up in Qadirabad area of Sahiwal and an agreement has already be signed with a consortium of prominent Chinese companies in this regard. He said that it is the first coal-based project of power generation and will be completed speedily and transparently while a high standard of construction will also be maintained. He said that the project will produce 1320 megawatts electricity.
He said that production of 100 megawatts of electricity from Nandipur project within a record period of seven months is a result of excellent team work. He said that the first turbine of Nandipur power project will start production on May 31. Shahbaz Sharif said that Nandipur power project remained pending for three years due to criminal negligence of former rulers while its machinery kept rusting at Karachi port. However, he said, immediately after coming into power, PML-N government paid attention to this project of national importance and persuaded the Chinese company to resume work.
He said that the work on this project was restarted in September 2013 and it has been completed within a record period of seven months due to honesty, hard work and commitment. The chief minister further said that rapid progress is being made under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif towards solution of energy crisis and power generation projects are being completed speedily. He said that no effort will be spared in the early execution of energy projects and cooperation of China and other friendly countries in this regard is commendable.
The chief minister appreciated the performance of Project Director Capt (r) Mehmood, engineers and staff of the Chinese company as well as Pakistani team regarding completion of Nandipur power project within a record period of seven months and said that it is a big achievement. A detailed briefing was given to the meeting on various mega projects. Shahbaz Sharif took notice of reported abuse of an eight-year-old girl in Bahawalpur and sought a report from the Bahawalpur RPO. He directed that the culprits be arrested immediately and strict action be taken as per law. The chief minister also directed that best treatment facilities be provided to the affected girl.

On one hand it's good that we are setting up Industries which will provide employment and up lift people, but on other hand we are destroying most fertile agriculture lands with this industrialization & residential schemes. I am afraid that within few years we will be facing sewer shortage of food. Punjab govt. must take it seriously and plan for future and next generations. If agriculture land is used for Industrial project than it must be compensated by investing in agriculture sector to improve yield and make lands which are lying ideal cultivatable. It's high time Govt. of Punjab to control fast spreading network of residential colonies and control them. It's time to plan and expand cities vertically not horizontally. We must not compromise on food security.

And on National level, new dams and canals should be made and we should not waste precious water and get max out of it. IMO - Gawadar should be developed ASAP and should be made Industrial hub and new export base Industries should be established in there.

There a lot of weak and salinity affected land tracts that are suitable for industrial parks and estates. For a healthy economy, it is good if agricultural and industrial sectors coexist in same geographical location.

Most industrial parks are greenfield projects, hence they are built on lands that are either waste or being reused. I think this is a welcome news for Pakistan. Pakistan can expect a few 1000 jobs through this park.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday said setting up a textile park with an investment of Rs200 billion in M-III Industrial Estate with the collaboration of Chinese industrialists was the first step in the journey towards progress and prosperity.

The chief minister was addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Ruyi Masood Textile Park as the chief guest.

He said the project would promote the textile sector and strengthen the national economy.

He said the project would allow an influx of modern technology and technical skills to Pakistan.

He said the government wanted to eliminate the energy crisis. He said ending the power crisis would result in trade and industrial activities in the country.

The chief minister said coal-powered plants of 270 megawatts were being set up at Ruyi Masood Textile Park.

Minister for Law and Local Government Rana Sanaullah Khan, Minister for Industries Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique, Masood Textile Mills Chief Executive Office Shahid Nazir, FIEDMC Chairman Asim Khursheed and Shangdong Ruyi Textile Group Chairman Yafu Qiu were also present.

Sharif said friendly relations between Pakistan and China had resulted in growing cooperation between the two countries in various sectors.

The chief minister said the park would generate thousands of jobs.

He said the Ruyi Textile Group was renowned in the garments, marketing, technology and export sectors.

He said Nandipur Power Project would become operational in a few days.

Masood Textile Chief Executive Shahid Nazir said collaboration of the prominent textile group from China for the project was an honour.

He thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and said the dream of industrial progress was becoming a reality.

He said 35,000 new job opportunities would be created as a result of this venture.

FIEDMC Chairman Asim Khursheed said due to business-friendly policies of the government, new avenues for investment in industrial estates sectors had opened up and investment by a big textile group of China reflected its confidence in the government.

He said a modern and international-standard infrastructure would be provided by the FIEDMC in M-III Industrial Estate.

Shandong Ruyi Group Chairman Yafu Qiu said his group was making investments of billions of dollars in 11 countries of the world.

He also praised the development strategy of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and said their cooperation and patronage had paved the way for investment.

Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan Yang Wang said that setting up the textile park would create more opportunities for investment in the industrial sector as Pakistan had an important place in cotton production in the world.

There are lots of things that could be done, loans aren't the only solution my friend. Increase in revenue is based on a lot of factors, taxing riches and increasing tax collection rings bells? This has been already discussed here a gazillion times.

My friend this 35000 is the potential job generation capacity of this industrial park. In the first few years of operation not more than 2-3000 jobs will be created. Industrial parks take time to grow to their true potential. Secondly, even 35000 jobs are not enough for 80 million young Pakistanis under the age of 35.

Even a single small textile unit in Faisalabad employs more than 1000 people of varying labor talents.
