Indus Valley Civilization: Pakistan

why only pakistan if Muslim population is the criteria Taj Mahal belongs to Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Iraq etc. etc.

My comment was made to an indian who said Indus Valley Civilization belongs to India because the indians still follow vedic culture.

Well just to let you indians know Pakistan has 1.5% Hindu population and they follow vedic culture. The vast majority of Pakistanis are Muslims but not all Pakistanis are Muslims.

And we didnt fall from the sky into our land we were always living in our land, so yes this is our heritage. Same with the Muslim architecture in India, why do vast majority of Indians who are hindus claim the Mulsim architecture in India as theirs if they dont follow Islam.

Today we are Muslims, thousands of years ago our ancestors followed some other Religion and we have so many archeological findings in Pakistan of our past. Its ok to learn about it but it doesnt mean we have to go back and follow that kind of life in 21st century. History is to learn not to repeat.

DAWN.COM | Letters to the Editor | Moenjodaro site in peril

This time it is not some national but the world heritage site which is in danger of annihilation as reported in the print media. According to the details that appeared in a section of the press, the National Highway Authority despite serious objections raised by the Archaeology Department has started working on Moenjodaro-Larkana extension road which will pass through the heritage site.

The ruins of Moenjodaro, an archeological site of the Indus Valley Civilisation, is one of the largest and old city settlements of the Indus Valley of South Asia built around 2600 BC.

It is one of the world’s few sites that United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has designated as ‘world heritage’.

The NHA in order to extend the road leading to Moenjodaro airport has appropriated about 300,000 sq ft of archaeological land which obviously will frustrate further excavations of the site, almost permanently.

Moreover, the incessant movement of traffic will shift toward the proximity of the main site which obviously will cause irreparable harm to the main structure.

The remains of Moenjodaro are already in bad shape because of the apathy of the federal and the provincial governments as well as corruption in the archaeological department. The highhandedness of the NHA in constructing extension will, however, cause damage to the site of the world heritage irreparably.

I request the federal and the provincial governments to direct the NHA not to violate the precincts of the most prestigious heritage of Pakistan.

Furthermore, before construction work starts it is also incumbent on the country representative of Unesco to come to the rescue of the site persevered by them as world heritage.

though off-topic,but responding
Ancient Indus Civ is extinct and was definitely not Vedic. The point being made is that its part of Pakistan heritage like everything else in the Indus lands and valleys, and I dont know why you find it appropriate to derail such threads with ownership claims rather than contributing positively.

How sure are you about the bolded part?
Do you have any idea about Vedas? and thier origins? when they were born?
You certainly not.

Hindus in general believe that time is cyclical, much like the four seasons, and eternal rather than linear and bounded. Texts refer to successive ages (yuga), designated respectively as golden, silver, copper and iron.Much projected as Satya Yuga ,Treta yuga , Dvapara yuga, Kali yuga.

Also the 4 vedas.Rig veda,Yajurveda,Samaveda,Atharva veda(was a special addition to the first 3).Of these 4 vedas,Rig veda was the oldest.
The Rig Veda is the oldest of the Vedas. All the other Vedas are based upon it and consist to a large degree of various hymns from it. It consists of a thousand such hymns of different seers, each hymn averaging around ten verses. The Rig Veda is the oldest book in Sanskrit or any Indo-European language. Its date is debatable. Many great Yogis and scholars who have understood the astronomical references in the hymns, date the Rig Veda as before 4000 B.C., perhaps as early as 12,000. Modern western scholars tend to date it around 1500 B.C.( as it is unfortunate that the westerners got used to spreading of falsified indian history and often put the truth under the carpet), though recent archeological finds in India (like Dwaraka) now appear to require a much earlier date. While the term Vedic is often given to any layer of the Vedic teachings including the Bhagavad Gita, technically it applies primarily to the Rig Veda.
Some Indus valley seals show swastikas which are found in later religions and mythologies, especially in Indian religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The earliest evidence for elements of Hinduism are present before and during the early Harappan period[54][55]. Phallic symbols resembling the Hindu Siva lingam have been found in the Harappan remains.

Though I am not an archeologist, but the exact findings of the Indus valley are still debated. Main reason was that ,the west were against the exact dates and manupulated as much butting the whole history of the sub-continent in the back burner.

If those dates were put fairly, today our children will be reading a revised history books right from the dates changing from stone age.
Be it impotence of indian gov or lack of resources to do proper dating of the findings, the whole historical evidence was screwed up.

Although terming the culture of Indus valley as hinduism is somehow abnormal, because hinduism itself is a widespread belief of various sub branches. Hinduism as a whole talks about Maha Maya (this was proved by the statue of the godess found in the ruins of Harappa). From the Maha Maya the tree found as many branches.

It is not important who holds the right of excavating these old valleys, but its all bout thier culture, ways of living and their tehcnological prowess. Vedas talk about everything right from the birth of earth. It takes no one else other than a true scholar who can understand that actual meanings and all those hymns.

My comment was made to an indian who said Indus Valley Civilization belongs to India because the indians still follow vedic culture.

no one ever said indus valley solely belongs to india... there are some differences as well as some similarities between vedic & Indus valley civi.

why pakistanis keep on saying indians claim indus valley civi.
we dont claim indus valley... we only claim and follow vedic civilization

here is the differences between both the civilizations

Indus valley civilizations
-Indus Valley civilization was urban, complex and luxurious
-The Indus Valley people lived in well-built towns
-Among the domesticated animals, horse was unknown to the Indus Valley people
-Iron was unknown to the Indus Valley people
- The Indus Valley people worshipped Sakti and Siva. The worship of trees and animate was quite common.
-The worship of images was quite common in the Indus Valley.
-The Indus Valley people worshipped the phallus which was bitterly hated by the Aryans.
-While the Indus Valley people venerated the bull
-From the discovery of the Indus Valley seals in Sumeria and other places, it is quite clear that the Indus Valley people carried on extensive and thriving trade with foreign countries
-The favourite amusements of the Indus Valley people were dicing, dancing and singing.

Vedic civilization
-the Vedic civilization was rural, simple and agricultural
-the Aryans lived in villages
-But the domesticated animals, horse was known to the Aryans
-Vedic Aryans were quite familiar with iron implements.
-The Vedic Gods were the forces of nature such as Indra, Varuna and Agni.
-the Aryans started worshipping images only during the later Vedic civilization
-The Indus Valley people worshipped the phallus which was bitterly hated by the Aryans.
-While the Indus Valley people venerated the cow
-The main occupation of the Aryans was agriculture. Though they did not neglect trade and commerce, we cannot say with certainty that they had commercial relations with foreign countries.
-the Aryans preferred out-door hobbies such as hunting and chariot-racing.

Buddism spread into Chinese Han dynasty most likely through silk road starting from Gandhara (犍陀罗) and Taxila (循鲜) around 100 BC. The first official recording of Budda discussion in Han court was the year of 65AD. Buddist influence was likely spread to Xinjiang first and then gradually to Han areas. In 67AD, Chinese emperor sent an envoy of 10 officials to look for real monks from the west and they brought a few Buddist monks back from the Yuezi kindom.

Personally I think that Indus valley civilization is a heritage of Pakistan. India might claim the heritage of verdic civilization. Buddism was a breakaway religion from Brahminism or later Hinduism. It'd be like stories of present day Naxalists to Hindus.

I think its good many pakistanis have started realising their identity crisis is getting them nowhere and accepting their own true history.

Welcome attitude change.

Pakistani's have been since our birth have recognised our pre Islamic history, it is designed on our currency notes, we learn about it in school and told of it throughout our lives to respect and educate our future generations on these civilisations.
