Indonesia stands up to China on Natuna Islands

The respective claims of all countries involved has been argued to death in the SCS thread. No need to rehearse everything here. The cards are on the table, played according to our respective govt. game plan, neither you nor I can change anything by arguing. Preferably I would prefer the issue can be resolved peacefully, but we shall see how things goes.

It useless talking sense to him. He is here for trouble only to find vietnamese is the punchy bag. Indonesian authorities so far has no sink a single Chinese capture boat yet while low countries like Vietnam boat are sink without even need to consider.

wow, as much as i expected

only Vietnam and Chinese poster here :smokin: :disagree:

they've 1 sqd on Su-30 and Su-27,some 2 sqd of F-16(1 in active service,1 on order),9 F-5,and 14 Hawk.it is decent.

we have two squadron of Hawk, the number active is around 26

one based in West Kalimantan and the other one is in Riau Province Sumatra

Until 2024, we want to raise the number of Fighter Squadron into 12 Squadrons. maybe we will ask help from US (another cheapo of F-16 maybe) to meet the timeline and budget consideration

Let me ask you, are you surprised that you get fries when you order fries too?

We had pacifist standing during Soeharto era, and his decision to cut off almost 70 percent Indonesian Military forces during political transition from Old Order of Soekarno era into New Order of Soeharto still have a tremendous impact for Indonesian Armed Forces till today. To reverse the situation is not that easy, we lost so many capability, proficiency and we need a comprehensive efforts and reorganization to Modernize our Armed Forces including Air Forces once more.

All the best for that

This article is BS.

Indonesia and China don't have any fundamentally contradictory territorial claims. Natuna is not included in the 9 dash line, and indonesia can very easily negotiate atleast 70 km of EEZ with China.

This is largely a fear of uncertainty.

Also, no words for Gordon Chang. It is really hard to understand this guy, a person born in china, a naturalised American citizen, who spares no opportunity to malign China.

How can China claim Natuna Islands thousands of kilometers from China and close to Indonesia ? It has 75,000 people all Indonesian. Its not some remote unpopulated island middle of nowhere.

.
There are no fundamental disagreements between Indonesia and China. The general is just pandering to a domestic audience since, as others have pointed out, the Natuna Islands aren't within China's claims (or at least far enough on the periphery that it doesn't matter).

Another China "specialist" ?

.
Gordon G. Chang, an expert on Asian security affairs, told the Asia Pacific Defense Forum [APDF] that Beijing met its match when it tried to make its case for sovereignty over theNatunas.

Indonesia does not acknowledge that China claims the Natunas as its own, even as the Chinese demand that the Indonesians hand them over.

“Indonesia’s bulking up of air assets in the vicinity of the islands is a clear indication that, whatever Jakarta’s diplomats may say in public, the Natunas are one archipelago too far for China,” Chang said.
:o:Gordon Chang is literally EVERYWHERE.
isn't he a lawyer? how come he is "an expert on Asian security affairs" now?
