Indonesia Issues Tsunami Warning After Powerful Quake Hits off Aceh Provinc

Certain parts of Sri Lanka felt tremors a short while ago as a result of 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Sumathra Indonesia. The department of metrology said that evacuation warnings would be issued to all coastal areas.

Standard tsunami alert in Indian Ocean: No reason to panic

Standard tsunami alerts were issued at Andaman, Nicobar islands and the Andhra and Tamil-Nadu states of Indian following a 8.6 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia today (April 11) around 01.45PM(local time).

Metrological Department officials state that there is no reason for panic as tsunami warning centers around the globe are consistently monitoring the situation.

Sri Lankan Security Forces have been put on standby and equipped to assist general public, responding to any emergency situation.

Meanwhile, the Southern Highway has been made available for all commuters heading towards Galle and Southern districts, as an alternative route reducing traffic in the Colombo-Galle road.

An 8.6 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Indonesia's Aceh province has been felt in 28 countries including Sri Lanka, India, Australia and Nepal. Tremors were felt across India including Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Bihar and Guwahati. A tsunami warning has been issued across the Indian Ocean.

The U.S. Geological Survey said today(Wednesday), the quake was centered 20 miles (33 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor around 308 miles (495 kilometers) from the provincial capital of Banda Aceh.

Yep, I don't think there will be a tsunami according to the alerts issued by our centre.
Anyway people have to stay 2 more hours at temporarily established displaced camps...

BTW, tomorrow & day after tomorrow are our new year holidays. Hope they can go back to their homes and enjoy the new year.....!
