What's new

Indonesia is the global leader in piracy

FYI: the piracy in the Malaccan Strait are internationals. Some from Indonesians, some from Malaysians, Thai, Philippines, Vietnam, almost everyone in ASEAN contribute to piracy in the region. Its like the Caribbean during the golden age of piracy. They just like to park in Indonesia because we have a lot of "blind spots."

Speaking of Pirate does anyone here currently following Black Sails :smitten:

If that is the case, then each states in ASEAN should really increase their patrols on their maritime borders and if needed, some cooperation between states will be needed just to capture pirates and bring them to justice.

We already did its just that the pirates are proven to be elusive.

Pirates usually operate using small, fast and agile gunboats that easily outmaneuver patrol ships in shallow water and quickly hiding their track in countless uninhabited islands.

Fortunately until today, SEA's pirates aren't as heavily armed as somalian pirates. Part of the reason is because guns possession are limited and strictly restricted for the mass.

@Carlosa

So are our little differences will be ended with cool head or you want to dragging this down much further?
Not, already passed, just a temporary thing.

I think patrolling helicopters and aircraft would be the solution to that.

Better to keep the pirates here in SEA as lightly armed as possible (or better continues interdicting and intercepting pirates) because once they get access to heavy weapons, things will get FUBAR.

Here, the more heavily arm groups usually become separatist or terrorist :D

those were GAM separatist, rebel group in Aceh. Indonesian government inked peace agreement and they were disband after tsunami struck the Aceh province. Now this movement reform themselves and take a new shape as a local party. They win the local election and install their governer there.

Papuan rebel (OPM) is different case. They are small and sporadic group without reall military power.

Wow, they look like a well trained standard military force.

They were quite discipline. They were able to conduct low scale war and constant skirmish with TNI for more than 30 years. Tsunami had brought back sanity to our people there.
