Indonesia beat China 3:0 in Thomas Cup and goes to Semi Final to face Japan (Badminton men team World Cup)

This is the first time I see in my entire life Indian team can even reach Semi Final in Thomas Cup or Uber Cup, let alone reaching final like the case for current Thomas Cup.

The big Five is always, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, and Denmark. Other European team that is good is Britain.
Badminton has only recently become big in India in the last 10 odd years.

Sadly, it has replaced tennis. For long, India along with Japan were the top tennis nations of Asia. Reached 2 Davis Cup finals.

Does the British introduce Badminton to India during their colonization rule ? Why cricket is booming while badminton is not ? It is relatively cheap kind of sport, it doesnt need large place to play, as for tennis it is a sport for the rich.

I think Badminton was invented in India by the Brits.

Cricket is just a social sport which everyone plays - its part of growing up in India.

India has a great tennis legacy - it's just been that way.

India will meet Indonesia in FINAL !!!!!!! @KedarT

Didn't expect that 3-0 result. Thought it would either be 3-2 Indonesia or 4-1 Indonesia. But our top players brought out their top games in all the first three. Sen particularly has been a revelation for us, he has the ability to be consistently in the top 5 if not top 3 in the future. It's the second time he beat Ginting, the last time he beat him was in March in the German Open where he won in straight sets and now he currently leads 2-0 against Indonesia's current top Men's singles player.
Now that I look at our Men's team, it indeed looks strong. Denmark and India are the only countries with 3 players in the top 20 rankings in Men's singles. In doubles too, we have a great pair in Rankireddy and Shetty but apart from them, we don't have any other strong doubles pair.
In women's, Saina Nehwal led the way in the early 2010s (won 1 Olympic medal) who was followed by Sindhu who won us 2 Olympic medals but apart from them, we haven't seen other promising players as of now. There is Bansod, Chaliha and Kashyap but they are yet to reach top 50 in WS. There's also Farooqui who is World No.2 in the junior badminton ranking.
