Indonesia backs Bangladesh’s SEACO initiative

Flip flop army with trawl turned patrol vessels believe themselves as military power come on learn to build your own tank, APC helicopter then try to boasting, another supa powa in believe. You Vietnamese learn a lot to bragging from certain country
Flip flop army?

Sorry sis, Vietnam military has a long tradition going back two thousands years, with glorious victories against world military powers as many as you can name. Indonesia military is weak. You can’t win a war against a ragtag militia.

No offense, in a theoretical war, Vietnam army with modern weapon systems would turn Indonesia army into ashes in a month.

.
SEACO is a noble idea and had great strategic potential beyond just economics.

It can easily discuss and devise methods to deal with huge humanitarian issues like Rohingya, human trafficking etc

It feels like a natural grouping and so has some cohesive value to actually do something about these problems.

Awhile back there was a photo with some officials from the Bangladesh Air Force and Indonesian Air Force.

If you are going by the body language and facial expression in that pic, it seems the two peoples genuinely like each other.

I agree that SEACO appears to be a natural grouping of sorts and as to the potential utility of the organization.

I agree that Indonesians will have no chance against a warrior nation like Vietnam.

Think they can beat a rag-tag militia but would have difficulty against a smaller but well-equipped and well-led army.

Yes you are right - this is what some people may overlook when you think of adding Thailand or Phillipines into SEACO.

Despite its flaws the European Union is by the most successful regional grouping. But it was because the founding 6 countries were of similar culture and GDP level which gave it a natural bond. If they added Greece etc right at the start it wouldn’t have been as successful.

Culture is still a very important factor and so these founding member of SEACO have what is needed. If the leadership will is there it could be the most successful Muslim union in the 21st century due to its potential GDP growth & strategic importance etc

100 percent correct observation.

Those numbers do not seem correct as it would have been more than 5% of Indonesia GDP that year..

If we look at 2017:

Still 3 billion US dollars a year from China is a lot. Strange thing is that China is a lot richer than Indonesia now.

Anyway China is rapidly losing it's competitiveness in textiles and will have to be replaced by a lower cost country.

I find it strange that Indonesia imported 1 billion dollars of textiles from Korea and 600 million dollars from the USA. Where these high-end designer clothing?

Okay now I have BBC reported Indonesia imported 5,3 billion USD from China in 2012. It is quoted from Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Ade Sudrajat. I think this data looks valid.

https://www.bbc.com/indonesia/laporan_khusus/2013/10/130930_lapsusjinping_tekstil

It may high end designer clothing, I dont know, but if the data from UN reveal that, then it might be true

Certainly there are conflicts within members, notably Vietnam vs Indonesia, conflicts with non ASEAN, so between some members as Vietnam and Philippines with China concerning SC sea dispute, rivalry Vietnam vs China, Japan vs China. Especially Vietnam and Japan are traditionally against China hegemony in East Asia.

Despite internal conflicts Asean members share common strategic interests though. A peace treaty hinders war between Asean nation’s. Any threat of nuclear attack on Asean is minimized by Asean nuclear weapon free zone.

If we enlarge Asean, the number of conflicts and tensions will intensify and we will head to a dead end.

I dont think there is prominent dispute between Indonesia and Vietnam. There is only a small dispute within our EEZ in South China sea that can easily be solved if both government are really serious. Government to Government and People to People our relationship look warm.

.
Asean cant be replaced as it was pivot for Indonesia foreign policy to promoting trade and cultural ties in the region and left out commies forces since the ends of 60s decade and we built ASEAN to what it is today from scratch and many challenge

Better to including Australia compared to India lol

Its fine....these side groups are of little consequence.

India and ASEAN have its own cooperation and dialogue.

Also with large relevant countries like Indonesia, India just prefer to focus on the bilateral relationship (trade, investment, cultural links etc)

This regional grouping stuff based on whatever globalist identity politics (And no real substance) means little.....what are 10 or 12 countries supposed to do on it? ...Compared to engaging each other bilaterally...and having more ppl in room only when needed for actual multi-lateral logistics planning etc.

Where the world is today muslims need to learn that we need unity and democracy. Seaco can achive a lot. For too long we have relied on OIC to no benifit.

Muslim world is massive, we need regional muslim integration and only then take it up to global integration.

Anyhow lets hope this is successful.

Honestly the future of the Muslim world in terms of economics is with Turkey, BD, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Most of the rest are just interested in wars for sectarian reasons.

.
Bangladesh is good alternative source for their half raw materiel and fabrics for our own textile industry and factory outlets
There can be many types of trades including exporting semi-finished materials including threads and fabrics from BD to be fed into your own textile mills. On the other hand, an Indonesian company can build an assembling plant for its railway coaches and locomotives in BD. Demand for these items will keep on rising with time.

.
We imported 24.8 billion USD of textile product yearly (2012 data) with 60 % of it comes from China. We had free trade agreement with China.

https://atlas.media.mit.edu/en/profile/country/idn/

2017, Indonesia imports 8.5 billion in textiles.

3 billion sourced from China.

Bangladesh exported 63 million in textiles to Indonesia, out of total exports to Indonesia of 69 million.

So much thread pages chasing so little volume lol.

Figures in 2012 for BD textiles/total to IDN was 34 (RMG) out of 46 million (total).

I suppose you have level playing field for their RMG...so no special preference in place because they are LDC.

@bluesky any comments about Indonesians?

Its best you first get your own outside investment to lot more than 2 dollars per person. Then people realise you have some substance to what you project/dream/claim.

Actually if you look at Indonesia textiles import from China now, composition wise....very little is RMG. It is mostly yarn + base fabric because Indonesia itself is lot more price competitive on the RMG portion of it (for internal demand and also further export):

Better to content with your own made flip flop oh shit Vietnam dont have manufacturing base to produce even flip flop and no industrial might of your country to support your decreipt soldiers.

21th century wars is war of economy and industrial might, no need for long century feeling warriors tradition. Look at US of A and ex slave people of Jews Israel, they dont have long time fighting tradition but now they are the most warlike Nation on earth

Vietnam even cant afford to saving their face to holding Asian games let alone spent more money for fighting

Sis your nation never fight a war, least against a superpower, hence you make such silly comments.
Winning a war requires more than having industrial might. It requires strategy, superior tactic, good knowledge of enemy behavior, in short: high IQ. The military balance between the US military and Vietnam army was 200 times. Lesser in military balance between France vs Vietnam, China vs Vietnam. If just who has more industrial might, we have zero chance and lose the war in the first month. The US lost 11,000 military aircraft of all sorts during the Vietnam war in case you haven’t noticed. Indonesia with some aircraft here and some Apc there can impress Vietnam military?

Vietnam doesn’t have manufacturing base? Our foreign trades will probably reach $600 billion this year, we are heading to $1 trillion in five years.

We are off topic though.

Its time that we need to forget about religion.. dissolve OIC or any other religion or race based organization.
Malaysia, Ind and BD could a block as they share common economic and military objective. Just kick Bronei out of it.
