Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), have planned to hold the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) to develop the Muslim fashion industry in Indonesia.
The 'Embracing Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week' is scheduled to be held on November 18, 2021, at Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.
“It is hoped that the Embracing JMFW 2021 would strengthen the Muslim fashion industry in the country and open up business opportunities in the global market," Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade Didi Sumedi said in a statement received here on Wednesday.
The opportunities for the Muslim fashion industry and the halal industry are promising, considering that the world's Muslim population is estimated to spend more than US$2 trillion on food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fashion, and recreation sectors, he noted.

Sumedi estimated that the export value of Indonesian halal products has reached just US$6 billion, placing it 21st in the world. Meanwhile, the nation's Muslim fashion exports are estimated at US$4.1 billion, placing it 13th in the world, he added.
According to the State of Global Islamic Economy Report, in terms of Muslim fashion industry growth, Indonesia is ranked 2nd in the world, with total consumption reaching US$21 billion and average growth pegged at 18.2 percent per year, he pointed out.
Kadin representative and deputy chairperson of the National Muslim Fashion Promotion Committee, Anne Patricia Sutanto, affirmed that Indonesia’s Muslim fashion has the potential to compete in the global market given the variety of designs supported by cultural markers such as batik, woven fabrics, embroidery, and accessories.
JMFW is expected to be an annual event of the Ministry of Trade and Kadin and aims to grow domestic and export-oriented businesses and become the most prominent Muslim fashion show globally, she added.
