Indo-Pak talks fail; Siachen standoff continues

It is Indian side which gains from status quo. Pakistan should dangle some carrot (all sticks are in Indian hand, unfortunately) to sweeten a deal.

It is not surprising, talks with Pakistan are destined to fail.

Emerging from talks with a delegation led by her Indian counterpart Shashikant Sharma, Pakistan's Defence Secretary Nargis Sethi said Islamabad wants both sides to simultaneously pull out troops from Siachen.

Simultaneously pull out troops from Siachen? :woot: Pakistan is miles away from Siachen, so how do they 'pull out' troops from there?

My friends peace is the only way forward for both our nations enough of the blood shed let the children of tommrow live in peace and let live for GOD's sake.
Spot on! Agreed! But while I appreciate your sentiments for peace and tranquility between both our nations, vacating our posts on the Soltoro Ridge at Siachen may be fraught with adverse consequences if at some later date a hawk takes over as Chief of the PA and orders occupation of the Soltoro Ridge by Pakistani troops!

That would be a disaster where India is concerned as it would be near impossible to re-take these positions. After the Kargil stab-in-the-back even as Vajpayee was on Pakistani soil, it would be extremely naive to withdraw without authentication of the present dispositions.

I would go a step further and get the present positions ratified by the UN so that the status quo is not altered unilaterally.

Once bitten (Kargil), twice shy! This action has resulted in a tremendous trust deficit. And that's the bottom line.

The following steps are needed for demilitarization:
1) Authentication of Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL)
2) Decide relevant positions where the troops will fall back to.
3) Periodic Reviews to ensure that agreement is being adhered to in letter and spirit.

If Pakistan does Step 1, then it would have automatically seaded the control of siachen glacier to India. Indian Army will never accept any proposal that discounts Step 1, because of the economy and the countless Indian lives lost to protect these positions.

It would require a Brave Pakistani COAS/PM to take these steps. Until then, there will be almost no real improvement in solving the issues.

Basically Indian never wanted nor they want in future peace in the region.........if you talk to them let's sit and resolve all disputing issues with dialogue, Sciachin, Sircrack, Kashmir they will never say yes.............always in Denying mod.......their is just simple thing behind.....they are want to become Superpower in this area (A dream they are living in).........they have problems with all their neighbours...........Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China and Even Nepalis don't like them (Personal experience working with them 5 years).

And whole of the world likes you. :smitten:

Ya well.. ask those jawans who have to use lamps to warm their bums so that they can ....

Dude, no point in being jingoistic. We all will have to break this deadlock someday. Its better that we do it sooner...

If true then this sums up India's attitude before the meeting. Why waste your your money and time talking to us then?

It's nothing to do with the attitude. Only pre-empting huge expectations from either side. India was pretty clear with it stance right from th begining. It wants Pakistan to authenticate it's troop position & India could not risk withdrawing until Pakistan authenticated troop position.

Armed forces of any country are there to defend its sovereignty.. That is the ONLY job they have.. If you are not ready to face the hardships of an army life; better not join in.. And you will not have to use to warm up your bums...!! :argh:
If you can compromise on your countries sovereignty for the sake of better living conditions of the "JAWANS", it will bw best to dissolve the standing army itself.. No army = No hardships..!!
Ask any one in the ARMY.. They will tell you that it will be near impossible to recapture the glacier if in case our enemy captures our positions. And do I need to make you remember KARGIL?? So much for peace and friendship..!!
Thanks but No Thanks..!!!

PS : I have a lot of respect for each and every soldier, be it of any nationality..!! They are more than what you and me can ever become..!! They are the reason we sleep well at night and become great keyboard warriors the very next day..!!

It's really sad how many of you like these types of news .. your damn blood rushes to your heard all the way back to your A$$.
Shame really to see how indian friends are so happy not seek peace and friendship and would want to keep this issue at a lock & load gun status. My friends peace is the only way forward for both our nations enough of the blood shed let the children of tommrow live in peace and let live for GOD's sake.

Admirable sentiments wholly reciprocated.

But why can't we have that peace with India continuing to hold Siachen for posterity?

Where is the hitch?

Siachen acts as a necessary Indian wedge between you and China.

If anything that wedge should be hammered in deeper to keep the status quo and the uneasy peace it has ensured.

What kind of tripe and baloney is this? Is this what you've gathered in 5 years of your so called 'personal experience'? When you know squat about the geopolitics of the region it's better to keep your one sided drivel to yourself. Jeeez! Self styled experts seem to be flooding PDF of late!

Like it or not... India is going to stay at Siachin and keep a watch at Pakistani posts :mod:

India can manage it but if Pakistan has any issue they are welcome to vacate their non-important posts and save lotta money.

Well the truth hurts when you read it. So read it and weep.
