India’s tango with the great powers

There will be no threat if the territorial disputes are solved. Which is unlikely because western powers won't let it happen. USA is selling/providing arms to both countries. Does it make any sense?
its not totally because west. Kashmir issue is very complicated. it is very difficult to solve. we can not blame west for our mistakes.

So UN and western powers have no role in complicating this matter? How can we forget the British who were sowed seed of divide and rule which created religious hatred and lead to partition.

Lets face it good relations between Pakistan and India will make this region prosperous. If it happens Pakistan will move away from USA and won't take their orders.

Western powers would maintan their status quo at any cost.

british dividing India on religious lines is again our weakness...India/Pakistan not able to resolve issues is again our mistakes...india subdued by foreign powers for 800+ years was also our own weakness...that is why it would be better to look inwards...

As far as the article goes then it is raising some important question however it is making the picture more grim then what it should be...US-China trade is some $500 billion and still counting even though strategically their interests are poles apart...Russian economy is taking the beating which is making it tilt towards China, however how it makes sense for them to ignore Indian interest completely?? Is India no longer an important market for them?? Similarly India-US ties doesn't mean Russia is no longer an important nation for us...

In short every country will follow their interests however balancing acts will follow as they are the need of hour in this global world....

Yes you are right British did divide us but it was our lack of trust towards each other that lead us to partition.
And we our selves created kashmir issue. It wasn't west who told us to fight each other.
So my friend first we have to take care of our weaknesses rather than blaming west.

India is no longer unaligned, we have already taken the sides with US.

I agree. The writing was on the wall with regard to the Russians for some time now.

What is our position on Ukraine? I don't think we have alligned with US, nor we should be. US should remain our business partner with increased engagement to ensure favorable treatment on international platforms, in return we will give some concessions to US.

I am not for purchasing key defence equipment like fighter planes from US either, today they will sell it and tomorrow they will start dictating us on our foreign policies. I hope we don't trade our long standing partnership with Russia for a new unreliable and dictating partner.

Yeah, and somehow I don't like it.

The US IMO can't be trusted. They are just like parasites.

Is there any option to tell Mr.Obama what are the actions of US that also would have shocked Gandhiji? He seems to care a lot about Gandhiji's feelings.

Russia is flexing its muscle once more. It has an old world Cold War veteran at its helm. There is only one way the US or the West are going to stop the waking bear from coming for its cubs. And that is a price they are not ready to pay. Not till one of their own (a major NATO country) is threatened. Russia will push till where it can. The US was a fool to think the Cold War ended with the breakup of the USSR. It is far from over.

We are not calling the shots here. We are trying to get to the big table. For that we need to grow. And maneuver to survive. Both of which we cannot do on our own, with a cold and distant US, a hostile and covetous China, and an increasingly manipulative and greedy Russia.

Really nice article. No doubt The Hindu is considered the best in India.

The Hindu is an exception in sensationalist overhyped Indian Media.. Even more surprising because it is based in Madras
