NEW DELHI: Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal touched a new high on Thursday as she zoomed into the top-five of the world rankings at a career-best fifth spot following her stupendous show in the All England Badminton Championships earlier this month.

The incredible display by Indians in Commonwealth Boxing Championship and now, Saina has become the first Indian to be ranked among top 5 in Badminton.

It is great to see Indians doing well in sports apart from cricket.

Next stop, lets hope Karun Chandhok is able to do wonders in F1 racing.

Official press release from Formula One website

India to host first Grand Prix in New Delhi in 2010

Bernie Ecclestone has today confirmed that after much speculation a contract has been signed this week with JPSK Sports Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Jaiprakash Associates Limited, to stage the first ever Formula One Grand Prix in India, to be held in The National Capital Region of New Delhi in 2010.

Michael Taub, who has been the driving force behind the project to bring F1 to India for the past ten years, has finally succeeded, along with Mr Sunder Mulchandani, in bringing this major event to a country of over a billion people.

Mr Manoj Gaur, the Chairman and CEO of Jaiprakash Associates Limited, and his brother Mr Samir Gaur, Managing Director of JPSK Sports Ltd, are very excited with being involved with the major brand of F1 and see this as being a huge attraction in India.

Bernie Ecclestone said: “India has always been known for its love of cricket, but F1 has been growing hugely in popularity in recent years as the viewing figures would suggest. Now with Vijay Mallya’s team, Force India, and the news that Karun Chandhok could soon be driving in F1, the announcement of the future Grand Prix in India will spark an explosion of further interest to rival that of the traditional sport.”

Saina Nehwal a step away from three titles in three weeks

Jakarta: India's Saina Nehwal continued her irresistible form to be a step away from winning three titles in three weeks. The top Indian shuttler reached the final of the Indoensia Open Series Saturday with a crushing 21-9, 21-10 victory over Eriko Hirose of Japan here Saturday.

Saina won the Indian Open Grand Prix and Singapore Open Super Series in the last two weeks which saw her gain three places in the rankings to World no. 3.

Saina, who is the defending champion and the top seed in the tournament, will Sunday take on another Japanese Sayaka Sato, who beat Indonesian qualifier Ana Rovita 22-20, 21-17, in the title clash Sunday.

Saina has defeated Sayaka in the finals of the World junior badminton championship in Pune in 2008.

The Japanese, however, is in great form in the championship upsetting two seeded players enroute final. Sayaka took out third seed Zhou Mi of Hong Kong in the first round, and then showed the door to seventh seeded Pui Yin Yip, also from Hong Kong, in the quarterfinal.

Saina was given a tough fight by eighth seeded Russian Ella Diehl in the quarterfinal where the Indian fought back from a game-down to win the match.

Saina, however, was at her dominating best against Hirose and won in just 25 minutes. After racing to a 6-0 lead in the first game, she never looked back and consolidated the lead to 13-7 before going 1-0 up.

She carried the momentum in the second game and from 4-2 Saina pocketed five points in a row to open up a huge 9-2 lead. Hirose had no answers to Saina's smashes and net play and bowed out.

She has good placing practice.. instead of beating the **** out of shuttel only placing around.
effective technique for a short stature player.
