Pretty sure this one is purely an internal affair of India.

If I were the girl being raped and hanged, I would rather make this an international issue if my country couldn't protect me. We have to balance between so called internal affairs and basic human rights. To the Chinese members here, Confucius already advocated justice of interfering into and even toppling a government of another kingdom if the government abuses its citizens, so internal affair is just a lame excuse invented in modern politics by abusers.

Also to those potential Indian rebuttals, I welcome the international community to help China redress abuse of human rights if there is any. Of course there will be different interpretation of what constitutes human rights, but I would say a robust discussion and exposure of any problem is better than hiding behind the excuse of "internal affairs."

But I would argue that it has long term benefits to the U.S. if the U.S. can help the world achieve modernity. You should read Amy Chua's book on minority dominated economies in SE Asia and blight of Chinese in those countries. In a sense, the Americans are the minority of the world but dominate the world economy. I would't digress too much into this, so I would say let's just agree to disagree on this topic.

Why did America want to fight in the Middle East? Their rationale was to stop terrorism coming back to hit the homeland. Fight it over there, so they wouldn't have to fight it on their home soil.

I don't think anyone would make the argument that it was purely for humanitarian reasons, firstly because plenty of other countries have far worse suffering, and secondly because instability and bloodshed in the Middle East has only increased since then.

Though America has somewhat protected itself against further terrorist attacks. Terrorist attacks have increased a thousandfold in the Middle East, but very few against the American homeland since 9/11.

It's true, America's multiple wars in the Middle East over the past decade did not exactly go as planned. The intention though, was to reduce threats to the American homeland by hunting down Al-Qaeda and related outfits.
