Pretty sure this one is purely an internal affair of India.
If I were the girl being raped and hanged, I would rather make this an international issue if my country couldn't protect me. We have to balance between so called internal affairs and basic human rights. To the Chinese members here, Confucius already advocated justice of interfering into and even toppling a government of another kingdom if the government abuses its citizens, so internal affair is just a lame excuse invented in modern politics by abusers.
Also to those potential Indian rebuttals, I welcome the international community to help China redress abuse of human rights if there is any. Of course there will be different interpretation of what constitutes human rights, but I would say a robust discussion and exposure of any problem is better than hiding behind the excuse of "internal affairs."
So you think the Chinese government should get involved in rape issues in India?
That sounds retarded. We are not "America global police", we are still a developing country with our own problems to worry about.
When did I say China should? If China can protect its citizens and has the power to help the world's population to enjoy healthy life, then China should. But at this moment, China has no such power.
The Chinese government should take care of Chinese citizens. Why should my tax money be spent taking care of foreign citizens? They have their own governments, and if their own governments fail, they can try international institutions.
Even the "American global police" make it clear that their first duty is to protect American citizens. And they have been a developed country for almost a century now.
Tranquilium said that this rape business is India's own internal affairs, nothing to do with us, and he is right.
Is there polite way to say " Mind Your own Business" ?????
Please don't change the topic of this thread. I was addressing the claim that rape is internal affairs of India, therefore, the U.S. shouldn't intervene.
The focal point is whether being internal affairs of a country is good excuse of rejecting another country's intervention to address the issue. Willingness of that country to help is another matter. But I would argue that it has long term benefits to the U.S. if the U.S. can help the world achieve modernity. You should read Amy Chua's book on minority dominated economies in SE Asia and blight of Chinese in those countries. In a sense, the Americans are the minority of the world but dominate the world economy. I would't digress too much into this, so I would say let's just agree to disagree on this topic.
Our policy is non-interference in other countries internal affairs. Such as that in the thread topic.
As for Amy Chua, isn't she that American talking about ethnic Chinese in SE Asia? Neither of them are Chinese citizens.
If Amy Chua is in trouble in a foreign country, she'll go to the American embassy. She is the responsibility of the American government, not ours.
If she wants protection from the Chinese government, she'll have to apply for citizenship like everyone else.
As for the thread topic, American interventionism is a two-faced policy. They pretend to care about people (whom they really do not care about, e.g. Iraqis) in order to push their own agenda, which by their own admission is all about American citizens first.
How did the Iraq War help American citizens?
