India's population to surpass China's by 2025

India will take over China in terms of population by 2025, an analysis of the provisional Census, 2011 data suggests.

With more than 1.2 billion people, India contains about 17.5 per cent (every sixth person in the world is an Indian) of humanity. China is the only country with a larger population, with 144 million more people. The United Nations has estimated that the Indian population grew at an annual rate of 1.43 per cent during 2005-10. In comparison, China registered a much lower annual growth rate of 0.7 per cent during corresponding period.

In fact, the population growth is now almost at par with that of the developed nations.

Demographers expect India's population to surpass that of China, which is currently the most populous country in the world. At that time, India is expected to have a population of more than 1.4 billion, which will begin to drop in subsequent years.

Analysing the provisional Census, 2011 data, Management Institute of Population and Development has quoted the Population Reference Bureau's 2010 estimates which says that India had 1189 million people whereas China's has 1338 million. Nearly 27 million children are born every year in India and only 16 million in China.

In the last 20 years, India's population has increased by more than 350 million, while China's has increased only by 210 million. With China successfully managing the population issue, it has been able to improve the rate of economic growth. “One fails to understand why some experts and policy makers have stated that India's population is its strength,” the analysts point out.

let see what happens, btw indian population growth rate dropped from 22% to 17% in 2011. it will drop further in coming years.

Educate people regarding family planning and the problems of increased population, offer incentives/facilities for families with only one child. This will encourage more families to undertake family planning.

India still has the agricultural land to support it, the only worry is do we have enough commercial or residential land to sustain growth.

Although the growth has slowed down, but one should note that the slow growth is in urban areas where the per capita income is quite high. What we should be more concerned about is the growth in rural belts where the growth hasn't slowed down much. With a lower per capita income, we are going to see the pressure on resources and additional work required to bring their social levels at par with the rest.

actually the biggest problem in coming years will be rapid increase in urban population, with more and more people moing to cities from vilagges and country sides.....huge population can be turned into an advantage with overall infrstructural growth and proper education( even the most remote villages)instead of just urban development.

GOI should be more aggressive in promoting family planning programs in the rural areas ...especially in agriculture -intensive and low income states like West Bengal , Bihar , Orissa , Assam. Also the Government agencies should hold intensive talks with the Muslim Law Board officials ASAP and convince them to officially endorse this campaign , they should be illustrated the benefits of population control and the tremendous effects it will have in uplifting socio-economic conditions - like education , per capita income etc. The two child policy should be accepted everywhere by the next 5 years .

Urban Indian families had already made their preference-one child.

The problem is with the rural families,they consider it as a gift of god and hence keep producing which u cannot even count on ur fingers.

Then start the project with 50% of urbanization, then the unbalance of the population would be solved.

China has been successfully reduced the rural population from 1 billion to 500 million in the last two decades.

did you create new cities or re-locate the citizens to existing ones ?

because creating new industrial townships is what is causing a lot of hassle in the rural areas of eastern Indian states - There are people's movements against the acquisition of farmland- even in some cases barren farmland.

The early phase of urbanization is a double edged sword, the best way you can do is to provide the government financial support for the rural population.

Once the country is completely industrialized, i don't think you would need 1 billion farmers, so most of them should be relocated to the urban areas.
