India's Nuclear Submarine INS Arihant Back in Service After Repairs
20:05 08.01.2018(updated 20:14 08.01.2018)
A media report claiming that INS Arihant had not sailed for more than ten months due to a critical damage had raised concerns, because the other nuclear submarine leased from Russia is also undergoing repairs. However, naval sources have confirmed to Sputnik that INS Arihant is back in service.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — India's indigenous 6000-ton nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant is back in the water after remaining idle for a year, due to an accidental breach which allowed water to enter the ship.

A highly placed source told Sputnik that the submarine has been repaired and made available to the Indian Navy as the damage was not substantial, contrary to initial fears.

The accident reportedly took place when the INS Arihant was at Vishakhapatnam harbor in late 2016. The outer hatch of the submarine is believed to have been left accidentally open, leading to ingress of seawater into the vessel. It was feared that the water damaged a part of secondary highly radioactive coolants; any defect of which could have had a direct impact on the reliability and performance of the plants and also dangerous for safety purposes.
With the commissioning of INS Arihant in August 2016, India joined a select group of countries (USA, Russia, China, France and the UK) which builds and operates Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear (SSBN). The second SSBN under the project, INS Aridhaman, is undergoing sea trials.

Earlier on Monday, a report published by the Indian daily The Hindu claiming that INS Arihant was still lying idle almost a year after the incident, had caused a storm of a controversy because it came at a time when another nuclear submarine leased from Russia is already undergoing critical repairs following a serious accident in August last year. The sonar of the nuclear submarine Chakra (Akula-2 class) was reportedly damaged and two panels were dislodged during the accident.

And this is despite being trained for decades on Russian nuke submarine.

Lol

.
Is this the one you indians fcuked up by leaving a hatch open?

. .
russians must have big hearts to lend Indians these submarines and watch what they are doing to them ......
they are behaving just like a teenage boy having his hand on rented car ....... :alcoholic::moil:

.
This damage can never b repaired fully... it's like major accident of a car

Correct.
When a nuclear submarine gets flooded, its a total loss.
They are hiding some. I am sure INS Arihant has been rendered inoperable.
They are ashamed to announce it. I have been looking for telltale signs. Will find it.
Fit for museum ingression IMO.

They have to be careful now. Such mistakes could also result in loss of human lives.

FYI INS arihant is an indegenious nuclear submarine. It's not a Russian product.

The entire submarine was not flooded. It was isolated to some compartments only

How many nuclear submarines have you operated? You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about what renders a nuclear sub inoperable.

BTW, how much info about its nuclear subs does USA reveal? Or China for that matter? Or Russia? Why do you expect India to do a full disclosure about its strategic military hardware?

In order for me to find the depth of Mariana Trench (deepest sea depth), I do not need to plunge into the Pacific ocean. The record is available.

Got it newbie?
Now shoo.

Okay then cite the source which says that Nuclear submarine are rendered inoperable after any kind of flooding. We still do not know what was the extent of the flooding.

BTW, I can find the source for depth of Mariana Trench but I am yet to find an authoritative source for details of damage that occurred on Arihant. Or the possible prognostication from them, for obvious reasons I guess. I think you are privy to more details than I do, isn't it?

10 months of repair time should have told you enough. Thats the extent, thats the magnitude.
Modi government is citing National security laws against more specific info.

India's other nuclear (leased) submarine was described that its sonar was badly damaged. why was it disclosed this way?

The way they don't even want to tell the price of RAFALE.
What has the national security got to do with the price?
Unless there is a scam waiting in the wings.

A PM, one who lies, one who hides his degree, one who favors his cronies can not be trusted. Period.

Arguing with him is like throwing a stone in shit , better avoid him..... he can even blame Modi for his birth
