India has been making massive strides in the automotive industry. After the success of Tata Nano, the NXR is the next innovative automobile from India.

A video of the NXR, an electric vehicle made by India's Reva electric car company, was displayed at a news conference in Syracuse, New York on Friday.

Last week, Reva, an Indian maker of electric cars, announced that it planned to open an assembly plant in Upstate New York to build a three-door plug-in hatchback called the NXR, in partnership with a local company.

New York officials welcomed the decision as a recognition of the state’s emerging battery-technology cluster and manufacturing skill.

“I believe the competition was between New York State and Michigan, and we won,” Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, said in a telephone interview last week.

Indian Automaker to License New York Plant to Build Electric Cars - Auto - FOXNews.com

REVA has come a long way after its infamous Top Gear episode.

Can some fellow members here enlighten us about such innovative ventures from Pakistan?

The Daily Times of Pakistan reports that the Canadian manufacturer of Neighborhood Electric Vehicles Dynasty Electric Car Corporation has been sold to Pakistani automaker Karakoram Motors. Dynasty General Manager Danny Epp told Canadian Broadcasting that limitations on the use of NEVs on Canadian roads along with the strong Canadian dollar contributed to the decision by the owner to sell the company. Dynasty has been manufacturing thirty to forty vehicles per year. Karakoram Motors assembles and markets light duty trucks in Pakistan. [Source: Daily Times of Pakistan]

Nissan’s Killer EV App, the Plug-In Car That Puts the Nail in GM’s Coffin

I have seen the future and it is a new car electric car from Nissan.

Nissan is about to drink GM’s milkshake with a breakthrough, affordable, next generation electric car that will be beat the Chevy Volt to market, cost half as much and work twice as well. Plus it looks ten times cooler.

<p><span style="color:#003300;"><strong>Check out the new Nissan Leaf on video:</strong></span></p>

<p style="text-align:center;"><span style="color:#003300;"><strong><span style='text-align:center; display: block;'><object width='425' height='350'><param name='movie' value='http://www.youtube.com/v/f48x9baSuF0&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;hd=0' /> <param name='allowfullscreen' value='true' /> <param name='wmode' value='transparent' /> <embed src='http://www.youtube.com/v/f48x9baSuF0&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;hd=0' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' allowfullscreen='true' width='425' height='350' wmode='transparent'></embed> </object></span><br />

You’ve got to love the fact that Nissan had balls and the vision to bank their future on full on electric vehicles, leapfrogging their Japanese competition Honda and Toyota whose timid and safe bet on hybrids has already marked them as bridge technology car makers. Both have been more than reluctant to go EV and both have said that the technology just isn’t ready yet. Perhaps what they should have said is THEIR technology isn’t ready yet.

But Nissan has the lithium ion battery and tons of desirable, very cool features ready for prime time right here and right now. And by that I mean the end of 2010.

And the Greenius says this looks like the smart money bet to me. This looks like what would have been the plucky, American entrepreneurial spirit move to me. Too bad for America our corporations long ago outsourced that kind of effort and heart.

This is a move that GM, Ford and whatever’s left of Chrysler should have made, but it’s too creative, too bold and too American for any of those legacy car companies to pull off in the 21st century. These are companies that already screwed the pooch and squandered their market share and competitive advantage. Their brand names don’t mean anything any longer.

peabodyEveryone’s all excited that Ford just turned a profit, but they’re doing it with a fleet of uninspired crappy cars that they practically have to give away. You might as well call most of the cars they’re selling “future clunkers.” The Focus? Really Ford? The “new” Ford Taurus? Are you kidding me? Might as well just make the Pinto-hybrid. When’s your affordable EV that gets 1oo mile range on a quick charge Ford?

But at least Ford didn’t just shamelessly stiff all their creditors through the scam of corporate bankruptcy like the FAIL crews at GM and Chrysler did. The Greenius understands that this is in fact the era of bankruptcy but that doesn’t mean I have to pretend to like it.

Over at GM’s remake of Night of the Living Dead, they’ve cranked up Sherman and Peabody’s Wayback machine with Bob Lutz who still thinks Ronald Reagan is President and that chicks still dig him when he wears his plaid pants.

MINIEMeanwhile, over at Germany’s BMW they made a handful of EV Minis just for show and not for dough in a cynical and dumbass move to game the California CARB regulators who once again seem to be all too anxious to assume the BOHICA position on behalf of car makers. Keep in mind that BMW has no plans to actually make this car, they’re just testing it in Southern California to “gather data.”

Not only that they’ve been treating their customers, the ones they’re charging $850 a month in leasing fees to, like they’re the enemy. They delivered the cars late, they screwed up the installation of the proprietary charging stations at the homes of lessees and they restricted the range and the easy chargeability of the vehicles.

Plug-In insiders know exactly what BMW is trying to pull with all this and many have lost respect for BMW as a result. Talk about a company screwing up its own brand future…

Contrast that with Nissan’s sincere and very prescient effort to delver the real deal.

Your Creative Greenius will be covering the 2009 Plug-In Conference coming up next week from August 10-13 and I’ll see the Leaf up close and personal and talk to the Nissan people. I look forward to bringing you my insights and analysis.

One story I’ll be closely following and reporting on is China’s role as an EV car producer. Several Chinese car companies are working on cheap, entry level full electric vehicles and will have them ready years before the major car companies. I’ve got my eye on BYD, the Chinese car company that Warren Buffet is backing, and you will too when you see what they plan to deliver next year to the American market:

Here’s what our friends at Plug In America tell us about this car. If it’s true, then American car companies are truly toast and the EV revolution will be arriving ahead of schedule.:

4 door crossover, 5 passenger, range 400 km (249 mi), 0-60mph 8 sec, top speed 100 mph, BYD Li-ion Fe battery, 10 min recharge to 50% SOC, 4 power combinations using front & rear motors on some models: 75kW, 75+40kW, 160kW, 160+40kW

.
The chinese company BYD (build your dream) is now the leading company in battery technology. And Byd is going to bring its first electric car in market.

Can we have some more details/pictures of that?
Thanks.

BYD e6 (2010 production). China’s BYD plans to show its electric e6 (pictured) in Detroit next week, as well as the plug-in hybrid F3DM it showed at this event last year. BYD, which claims the e6 can go 205 miles on a full charge and hit a top speed of 87 MPH, aims to launch the model in California this year. The company is scheduled to hold a press conference at the auto show on Tuesday morning.

Ya really, age of India is inside India -not in world or out side India. India is obsessed by India, not the world obsessed by India.

Perhaps this was a reason for "independent foreign policy"....which ensures Indian interest are served first rathar than some others.

Mitsubishi’s Electric Car Will Be Released in 2009 for $37,500
by Benjamin Jones on July 13, 2008

It seems our favorite media darling, the Chevy Volt, will have bit of competition when it comes time for it’s eventual release in 2010. Though we’re not sure if it will make it to the US (like the Smart Car EV), we do know that Mitsubishi’s iMiev will make it to market a year earlier than the Volt and be priced lower.

The iMiev, which we start hearing about earlier in the year, has already been slated by Mitsubishi for commercial sale in Japan in 2009, a full year before the Volt is intended to hit US shores. There are also unconfirmed rumors that the iMiev may also make it to the US after a run of a few years in Japan. However, what’s really interesting about the iMiev right now is that Mitsubishi has just released a price figure of what $37,496 US, which is about $2,500less than we often hear talked about as the price point for the Chevy Volt.

Despite the similarities in pricing and release date, the two cars are very different beasts. The iMiev is based on a current Kei-car produced by Mitsubishi for Japan, and has a 47kW electric motor powered by a 330-volt lithium ion battery pack. The car will have a top speed of 80 mph and an all electric range of about 100 miles. Charging will take place via a normal power outlet and should take about 14 hours to completely charge the battery, though there is all a 220V charge option, which only takes 7 hours.

On the other hand, the Volt will feature a sportier 120kW motor and 100+ mph top speed, but will only have an electric range of 20 or 40 miles (depending on the speculation and model selection), after which is will switch over to your standard dinosaur burning engine like in most cars these days. Chevy claims that most people never drive over 40 miles in a day, but I’m sure these Volts will be burning enough fossil fuels that calling them “electric cars” will leave a bitter taste in some peoples’ mouths. I think series hybrid or plug-in hybrid is much more appropriate.

it is currently running on the roads of japan and may be other countries as well

Congurates india.
NISSAN's EV has a long way to be in PR. The charging prolem is still remained, it takes 8 hours to fully charge. And building charging station all over the country will cost a lot of money. It needs couple decades to solve this problem to make EV be in PR.
