Praising Gujurat is a taboo inside the so called 'Secular Liberal' Circles. In my home state Kerala, a Muslim Communist leader was kicked out of the party because he praised the Gujurat Model of development.

Gujarat is doing very well, but which Indian states are pulling down the national GDP growth?

Why don't the other Indian states follow the Gujarat model as well?

They may have a different way of life, for example the state of nagaland where most of the people are tribals and they may not want to abandon their way of life. Furthermore, corruption varies from state to state

Gujurat has very few natural resources of their own, so the Gujuratis have always been very industrious. Gujurat in one way can be compared to Japan. On the other hand we have states like Chatisgarh and Jharkhand and the tribals there are sitting on top of the one of the richest natural resources in the world, but they would rather fight the Govt through violent means and live in eternal poverty than give up their land for development. These states remind me of Congo of Africa which has the largest reserves of natural resources but the people are one of the poorest in the world.

I hate it how Gujurat takes away all the headlines, while Haryana gets none.

Haryana has one of India's wealthiest rural areas (some rural areas in Haryana even surpass Bangalore in wealth generation) -

Poor rural India? It's a richer place - The New York Times

It has the highest per capita income among major Indian states -

Haryana to construct 6000 rooms for games - Economic Times

Haryana boasts one of India's best land acquisition schemes (resulting in creation of multiple SECs) -

Business must be done the right way - Columns - livemint.com

Haryana is the largest manufacturer of passenger cars, tractors and motorcycles in India (...and Chennai is called the "automobile hub" of India) -

Haryana - States and Union Territories - Know India: National Portal of India

It also has the highest investment per capita among Indian states -

Haryana Hurricane - Indian Express

And in 2009, it registered an economic growth rate of 11%, the highest in India (notice how the article's headline splashes Goa as #2, and ignores the #1) -

Goa no. 2 in economic growth - Times Of India

During 2009-10, it recorded a stellar 9.9% growth while per capita income increased by 16.3% at current prices. It also one of the few major states in India with a revenue surplus.

But at the end of the day, no matter how good the Haryanvi Banias and Jats are in entrepreneurship and economic skills, they are horrible it blowing their own trumpet (with the exception of me). And that's why, Gujarat and Bangalore get all the headlines, while Haryanvis silently march towards prosperity.

its all about political philosophy...... Gujarat has a govt which is pro capitalist hence the labor laws, sez's etc favor businessmen a lot....... But in some other states the govt continues to have extremely unfair( to industrialists) labor laws etc and does not remove them for fear of losing the vote bank , this hampers the economic growth of that state.
Some major steps have to be taken in all indian states to make them more business friendly, but govt is too afraid of losing vote banks to do so. India currently ranks 134th in ease of doing business and we still manage to be the second fastest growing economy, imagine what we can do if all these restrictions on industry is lifted...

Labor laws the biggest growth killing regulation in India and cutting atleast 2 point every year. We will never have decent manufacturing sector if we don't change labor laws.

Not to belittle Haryana's achievement, but the greater punch lay in manufacturing and industry and not in agriculture.

Haryana and Punjab are the country's bread basket but don't add much to the national GDP.

Agriculture remains a low-paying and less rewarding sector as far as GDP is concerned.

That's why Gujarat hogs the limelight.

Haryana - Gurgaon ~ Bihar in terms of industrailization. Most development in haryana is concentrated in Gurgaon only , some in Panchkula while minimal in other cities. CM concentrates a lot on his own city rohtak but there is no industrailization in haryana other than gurgaon. Also infrastructure of gurgaon is not great either, 2 days back there were rains and water clogged everywhere, even in front of malls which is considered most happening place in gurgaon.

Hitler, Stalin Mao of Gujrat.

Modi has evolved as a leader.10-15 years back,he used to hold views which would be considered as more aligned to right-wing ideology. But,then the state of Gujarat has evolved a lot,ans so is the Chief minister of the state. One thing can be said for sure, that he is a people-person,wants proper development and most important of all, knows how to go about it.

His outlook can be considered moderate.India in particular and the subcontinent in general can develop a lot if he ever becomes the Prime Minister. He is known to be fast, swift, sharp and deliberate. So I guess under him, there will be more actual work on the ground and less beating around the bush.
