The Shaurya missile is a short-range, ground-launched, solid propellant ballistic missile. It has a length of 10.3 m, a body diameter of 0.8/0.75 m (first/second stage), and a launch weight of 5,500 to 6,500 kg. It carries a 500 to 800 kg warhead with 17 kT nuclear option, or submunitions. The Shaurya is guided by a ring laser gyroscope and accelerometer. The maximum range is estimated to be 700 km, with later variants reaching a 1,000 km. The accuracy is 20 to 30 m CEP.
The first flight test occurred in 2004. In September 2011, a silo launch was reported and it is believed to have been successful. The missile will likely enter into service in 2014, possibly in 2013.
