good news !!!!!
if they can develop civil plane. why not GOI give them permission to try to develop Basic jet trainer

I am not sure if we need to make any modification on this aircraft to make it Basic Jet Trainer. Only thing that I could think of is to change it from 5 seater to 2 seater.

What happened to SARAS? Grounded? It seems the First is replaced by another first..

Last information that I have is about 6 month old. Russians were roped in to re-verify the structure and help correcting it if any defect was found.

The first prototype will be upgraded to meet the latest design criteria including higher-power 1,200hp (895kW) Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67A engines and improvements to the flight control and flight operations systems. The upgraded PT1 is due to make its first flight by the end of 2011 leading to certification and first deliveries in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

I think Mahindra's should be roped into this project. They have knowledge and they can quickly turn the table for this bird. Never the less a proud moment for our country!!!

Before saras certification AIRVAN GA18(16 passenger Multi Role Aircraft) will be in market i think>:cheers:

You get better DIY kits on eBay. HAL, please stop wasting the taxpayers money..

What's the joke? Its supposed to be a 'low cost plane, to get to point A to point B'. HAL has nothing to do with it. A branch of Mahindra and NAL. It's a great achievement.

I keep hearing people say this but I'm not sure privatisation would be a cure-all. I am willing to hear arguments why it would be though.

Indian PSUs except for some dealing with oil & steel are not exactly known for their efficiency while Indian private sector can compete with the best in the world.

I read a fact about TATA that when they were making trucks in India, Mr. Honda was still assembling cycles in Japan; and when TATA finally began to make cars, Honda is one of the most recognized car brands in the world. This mainly happened because of the of the ill conceived socialistic policies followed by India in the first 40 years where everything was was goverened by quota and you even have to wait for years for getting a scooter.

private sector in india is known for its pace of work...government organisations take lots of time to function and they mostly do not care about profit or loss as they are funded by government..while private firms keep profit in mind and try to be punctual..

Wasn't the Saras India's first civilian transport aircraft(Or a Military and Civilian transport aircraft)??
