Sri Lanka though a tiny nation can't be ignored by India b'coz of it's geography, which like India stands on top of all important Indian Ocean. That is why India is feeling threatened by Chinese activities in SL. Also no nation can be said unimportant b'coz of it's size, remember Sikkim acceded to India only in 1975 after a referendum, so tiny kingdom like Sikkim was also important for India.
