India's DMRC to Export Metro Coaches to Australia for Queensland & Sydney Metros

I personally find them ugly but it brings in some serious revenue for the DMRC so one can't complain too much. The Gurgeon Rapid Metro and Mumbai Metro also wraps some of their trains like this.

+ AFAIK the DMRC has said only around 10% of their trains will be offered to be fully wrapped like this, the rest will be without such wraps.
Since they help in generating non running revenues no one can fault them.
DMRC was supposed to increase the fare of the metros as they not been increased in the last few years whereas the cost of electricity and other expenses has increased but alas the AAP decided to junk that.

I seriously think whey they will leave Delhi every dept will be going the way of NDMC and EDMC which have not paid salary to their employees for the last 3 months.

No way sir, the DMRC is a separate entity that reports directly to the central government, the AAP clowns can't tell them what to do or touch their budget.

Fare revision for Delhi Metro faces more delay

NEW DELHI: There is no quick relief for Delhi Metro as it tries to pull out of a financial mess created because there has been no fare revision since 2009. The appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) has rejected the name of a retired judge that was submitted by the urban development ministry to head the fare fixation committee, government sources said.

It has asked the ministry to submit new names including that of other members of the panel. Sources said restarting the process would take at least a couple of months because of procedures and more so when there is a new government in Delhi. The ministry has to take the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on board before suggesting new names.

The panel will have three members and will be headed by a person who is or has been a high court judge. The other two members will be Union urban development secretary and Delhi's finance secretary. The panel decides on the formula for fare revision.

TOI has learnt that in the past two years, four names submitted by the urban development ministry has been turned down by ACC.

Now there are apprehensions whether the AAP government would be keen on revising Metro fares within months of coming to power.

DMRC can revise fare only on recommendation of the three-member fare fixation panel. The corporation has been pushing for the setting up of the committee citing that a fare hike has become imperative with a significant increase in operational and input costs. Almost 40% of Delhi Metro's overall expenses go towards paying electricity bills with the power consumption rising to around 63 crore units amounting to almost Rs 450 crore in 2014-15.

Fares were last revised in 2009 when the minimum fare was raised from Rs 6 to Rs 8 and the maximum fare was revised from Rs 22 to Rs 30. Delhi Metro can revise the fare only on the recommendation of the committee.

Striking workers litter East Delhi with rotting garbage

garbage_759.jpg

The BJP’s flagship Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the AAP’s good, clean governance mandate took a hit on Friday after close to 12,000 safai karmacharis under the East Municipal Corporation went on strike. Protesting workers took to the street Friday afternoon refusing to pick up garbage in the area and instead gathered at traffic intersections and spread rotting garbage across the roads.

The strike was called by the Delhi Pradesh Safai Karamchari Union. Its president Rajendra Mewati said, “Our wages from the corporations have not been paid for months so we have decided to go on strike.”

Areas affected included deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s constituency Patparganj and Mangalam, Laxmi Nagar, Karkardooma, Vikas Marg, Jagatpuri and some areas of North Delhi.

The garbage thrown was so thick and deep that many two-wheeler drivers slipped and fell. “I saw more than 15 people fall today. It’s bad and they should not have put the common man at risk. The garbage littered on the roads had glass bottles, nails and scrap iron. It’s very dangerous,” Akhilesh, a paan vendor, said.

Many of the residents are also angry with the way the safai karamcharis have decided to protest. “I have been living in this area for the past 10 years and this is the first time I have seen something like this. I live in Chetna Apartments and the the stink doesn’t reach us. But walking on the street is now impossible. I hope the government does something to resolve this issue,” Gaurav Gujral, a resident, said.

Elaborating on the issue, Yogendra Mann, East Municipal Corporation spokesperson, said, “This happened because the karamcharis have not been given their salaries since February. As soon as we get funds, the salaries will be given to karamcharis.”

Currently, there are nearly 12,000 safai karamcharis under East corporation. The civic body is facing a huge financial crunch and it needs around Rs 300 crore in order to pay salaries to its employees.

Senior functionaries of the association also said they would protest outside the houses of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

“We will spread garbage outside their houses as well if our demands are not met immediately. How can poor people be refused wages,” a senior leader said.

A safai karamchari said, “It’s been six months since the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan took off. But it’s almost the end of this month and I am yet to receive my salary for the past three months. While the rest of the country celebrated, the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan for us meant the loss of a holiday. But most of us didn’t complain, as we thought it would make the country cleaner.

Sydney metro trains to be made near Chennai

Alstom manufacturing facility at Sri City

CHENNAI: In two years, Chennai port will be exporting trains to Australia. The Alstom manufacturing facility at Sri City, near Tada on Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border, will be constructing 22 trains consisting six coaches each for the upcoming metro train project in Sydney. Chennai port will ship out the trains by end of 2016.

Recently a team of Australian officials visited the unit and were satisfied with the facilities at the unit. Following this the company received go-ahead to manufacture the trains. Incidentally, coaches for Chennai metro will also come from the same facility. @kbd-raaf :enjoy:

"The Australian officials were satisfied with the manufacturing facility and the engineers involved in the process. The total cost of the Sydney project is likely to be 280 million euros and the coaches will be as per the specifications given by the Australian authorities," Alstom India (transport) managing director Bharat Salhotra told TOI.

The company is responsible for the project management, design, supply, manufacturing, testing and commissioning of the rolling stock and signalling systems in Sydney. "The manufacturing facility near Chennai was set up to cater to Chennai metro rail as well as the Kochi metro rail for which the company has got the contract," said Salhotra.

Since Chennai is the nearest port to the manufacturing facility, the company proposes to send the coaches to Sydney through the port. "The logistics are being worked out and we will approach the port authorities eventually," he said.

The coaches will be different from the ones being manufactured for Chennai metro. "The metro coaches for the city will be different from the ones that will be manufactured for Sydney. Some features will be incorporated in the coaches as per the city's requirement," said Salhotra.

The manufacturing facility has been set up on a 2.8 lakh sqft site and employs over 200 workers. The factory has an energy-efficient design including double insulation, heat recovery systems, a geothermal heating and cooling system which consumes less energy and is equipped to recycle rainwater. The facility's location in the Sricity Special Economic Zone provides a lot of space for further expansion.

germany and japan, during initial phase. As your railways boys travelled both japan and germany for this.

Neither from Germany nor from Japan - During phase I the initial rolling stock was imported from South Korea's ROTEM which since then is being manufactured in Bangalore by BEML through a technology transfer arrangement.

The initial rolling stock for Phase II was supplied by Bombardier Transportation made in Görlitz, Germany and Sweden - since then they are being built at Bombardier's factory in Savli, near Vadodara, Gujarat which has bagged an order from Queensland Metro in Australia as well.

No one had to travel anywhere - it is an open tender bidding process - the one who bids the best gets the contract.

As of now over 90% of the rolling stock of Delhi Metro has been manufactured domestically.

I was told by an L&T guy that germans trained them first

Oh the burn is so visible....

You needed metro you built, we also need metro but when it is feasible, we will built :) lots of AID and CHINESE INVESTMENT is coming.. WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. ;) are you jealous :P

I admit that Delhi metro is quite good as compared to Mumbai now but it also has a 10 yr head start.

Also if you compare these coaches to NYC Subway or Tokyo metro they aren't half bad.

P.S How the hell doesn't Sydney have a metro system yet?? . It got a monorail ages ago.

.
Chennai expected to start operations on one single segment in a few months....let's see where it goes....
For chennai metro, there is a coach making factory at TN- Andrea border.

Still wondering why so many different coach making units in India. Every metro is having a separate coach making factory?

We have only three - BEML at Bangalore - Bombardier near Vadodara and Alstom at Sri City - Private companies are free to invest in this sector - more manufacturing facilities are welcome! Still some metros are importing from abroad like Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Isn't Hydrabad getting the same Bombardier rakes as the DMRC's Standard Gauge rakes?

As for Mumbai- what do you expect with Reliance? Cheap and nasty trains from China.

Not sure - rolling stock for HMR is being imported from Hyundai Rotem from South Korea - First train for Hyderabad Metro rolls out of Korean factory

Reliance guys have always let us down as far as Metro projects are concerned - like in the case of Delhi Metro Airport Express and raising fairs for Mumbai Metro against the ones recommended by the government itself.

How the F**k is this 'make in india'? These plans were laid out years before Modi came to power.

The striking workers are related to municipal corporations controlled by BJP. That's why the BJP is gonna take a beating in the municipal elections now.
