India’s dirty secret: Modi goes where Gandhi failed

I remember 4 or 5 years back, Railway station was filled with garbage, and people throwing garbage in the platform or in the track, but today when you see the Station is clean and you hardly can see anything on the track, and if some one even think of throwing onto track, he will retract looking at the cleanliness.....
This is very true. Human psychology. :D

I had a different experience in a different part of India, where in every idiot used to eat pan/gutka and used to spit in every wall they see...... Even they used to spit on the walls of hospitals...... In one of my channel partner wall was painted 3 times in 2 months time, and we had to paint religious pictures on the wall to stop these idiots spitting.....

what's wrong he said? he used some harsh word but everything he wrote make sense.

Of course. He was right but he still thinks that all of India is like that.In our house we will clean our bathrooms even if we are upper caste. Not only us we entire keralites are like that.I think many state are follow such good value in India .But still he is roaming around casteism.
And it is also about peoples attitude .You should visit Mysore. Then you can see how peopleprotect their cities from garbage.

I rather appreciate the blunt truth. However it may sting it's true. I donn say that one speaking is speck clean. It's more like we all are facing this problem, so let's help resolve it. The first step to solve the problem is to Identify the problem. Unless we identify the problem how are we going to seek everyone's interest, how are we going to evaluate possible solutions and then how are we going to implement the most feasible solution and resolve the problem ? I admit I have a hand in the present scenario of my country but now as I am aware I have taken steps to resolve the issue on my end.

In my opinion it's better to have blunt truth than false pretense of our own country. I donn know what other nationalities think about their own, but we should know the best, the good, the bad and the worst of our country.

Naah cleaning is required and it has to be done on daily basis. But by just linking pics and putting some scathing words is not going to clean the garbage. This where I disagree. While writing such articles most of writers try to publish it in way that it should stand out in busy network that is where they loose momentom in writing where they should at least be impartial. But its too much too ask for from current writers. Everyone is showing holier than the thou attitude. Thank you.

Castiesm is still there but in different way just as it is in most of the countries. extreme castiesm is also there but more in rural and inland areas but also these are the areas which have some dignity left when it comes to public life. I have seen all parts of India except northeast and Eastern India. everywhere it looks same whether its Kerala or gujrat or Punjab.

Filthy people with filthy eyes can see only the filthy side of a nation. They will convinently ignore good side whatever it is .The guy who wrote this article is someone like that.
This cleaning issue is indeed need to be addressed. We hope our PM would take good decision for that. But some guys are thinking as this is some national security or disaster like that.

Reminds me of what Gandhi told about Katherine Mayo's 'Mother India'- the report of a sewer inspector.

It is not only people but also the authorities..... There was an article today on Malayala Manorama regarding the same issue in cochin...... in which they spoke about 2 Bus stations, One KSRTC(old one) and the other Mobility Hub, which is used by both govt and private operators.

KSRTC one is filled with Garbage, spit, and what not, where as in the same city Mobility hub you hardly can see garbage is thrown out, and people use dustbin...... The question raised by the author was, same people use both the busstand (hardly 3 kms apart) How does people attitude changes when they get to the new busstation........ The answer is, Authorities also have a role to play....

I remember 4 or 5 years back, Railway station was filled with garbage, and people throwing garbage in the platform or in the track, but today when you see the Station is clean and you hardly can see anything on the track, and if some one even think of throwing onto track, he will retract looking at the cleanliness.....

You know I think people have much lesser role than authorities. I know it's gonna be controversial, but I think authorities are to blame more.

Yes it's a a deadly cocktail of ignorance of authorities and immunity developed among people to garbage / filth ridden streets.
When I was young I tried to sue Municipal corporation for not doing work despite collecting all sort of taxes, Everyone at court was laughing at me and I could not register case against them. Once i go back to my home town I'll sue them for sure.

What was Gandhi words?
Good people will see Good side of nation?
Good people Must see good side of nation and recognize bad side and put efforts to fix bad.

First instinct when pointed to our bad habits is - filthy people see filthy things and Pakistanis have no place to remind us of our filth!

I would say 50:50 - Authorities should act on the cleanliness and stricter laws, Citizen to follow the laws.....

How do you expect people to keep streets clean if there is not garbage collection and disposal system available or if available non collects on time?

I'll sue them once I get back to to India! It's my Childhood dream!
