DRDO has finally reveled that it is working on a cruise missile defence (CMD) Interceptor Missile program , which will be able to intercept low Flying Long range and Air Launched Cruise missiles . technology will be spin off of Advanced Air Defence (AAD) Ballistic Missile Interceptor fined tuned for Cruise missile Interception .
DRDO is putting together Battlefield Management Control for Cruise missile defence (CMD) program which will involve bringing together technologies which are already developed for other Projects been integrated into one to provide shied against Low flying Cruise missiles . Technologies DRDO is working on Cruise missile defence (CMD) program will be to to improve low level radars to search and track low flying cruise missiles and improve detection at lower altitudes . Provide higher Maneuverability and data links for continuous updates for Interceptor missile .
Battlefield Management Control for Cruise missile defence (CMD) program will be able to track Cruise missile from launch phase with help of low-level surveillance systems like Akashdeep Aerostat system been developed by Aerial Delivery Research & Development Establishment (ADRDE) , along with ground based low level radar , which will keep monitoring Cruise Phase of the missile before Interceptors are activated when the missile begins its Descent phase before it comes too close to its targets .
Cruise missile defence (CMD) Interceptor Missile will be able to provide much needed shield to High value Strategic assets in the battlefield or in War theater , while DRDO has not commented on possible time period when the missile will be tested but ” India’s Ballistic Missile Defence Programme ” has given enough confidence to Indian Scientist to work on technology which already exists in the country to develop such missiles interceptors , same missile will also be able to Intercept short battlefield range ballistic missile like Nasr .
