What's new

India's Asiatic Lion Population Rises by 27% in 5 Years - Tiger Population up by 30% in 3 Years

Lions are found in wild on Africa and India only.70 % tiger population of the world are found in India.

But don't understand a lot of people, party and countries put these creatures as their status symbol even though none of them are available in their landmass and only found in zoo !

I read a article that says some of the lions or gir should be moved to other sancturys. This is so a outbreak of disease will not put all the lions at risk.

This is good news.
That last report of a Tigress in Bangladesh killing her 3 cubs really ruined my day.

Drop in the number of Royal Bengal tigers in the Sundarbans is a matter of great concern - There are only 103 left (2013) - a slight improvement from 70 in 2011 - In 2008 census the tiger population in Bangladesh saw a drop - any new updates/census figures?

I honestly don't know. But, with the oil spill that happened around the end of last year, I'm not optimistic about it.

Is that what you Heard ?

I heard the white man hunted most creatures to extinction. So you should worry about your own since you have good reasons to.

No need to get your pansies in a twist. Wild life protection laws are much strictly enforced in Europe and US and adequate research on their habitat and ecological dependencies are done to monitor their health and risks they face due to global environmental changes.

This is good news.

Yes, google 3 tiger cubs die at Dulhazra Safari Park.
seriously man .. I will come down there and gut each zoo official down if it happens again .. should have been the responsibility of zoo trainers to get them trained. :(

Though training could be one thing. I think the conditions they were in is another. Apparently the conditions they were kept in were quite poor. And, that caused a large amount of stress in the tigress to kill. It probably was a cage instead of a park anyway.

Pakistan's forest cover is wrongly given. It is now less than 3% of their land area. They have been logging their forests intensely to cover up for fuel, electricity shortage.

Just planting does not help. 70-80% trees planted do not make it beyond the first few months to year. Plant caretakers have to be appointed to see to it that they do not wither off for the first few years.
