ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday celebrated its diplomatic victory — the overruling of Indian objection by Russia to displaying of its new political map at an online meeting of national security advisers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Indian NSA Ajit Doval walked out in protest during a speech at the dialogue by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Moeed Yusuf.

Mr Yusuf, later in the evening while talking to journalists, described the Indian reaction as “unfortunate”.

“Bizarrely, my Indian counterpart chose to walk out of Pakistan and Russia’s speech. Left a bad taste at a forum whose whole spirit is cooperation,” he tweeted separately.

Mr Yusuf’s office said in a statement that India’s “spurious claims were rejected as it faced defeat after its formal objection to Pakistan’s new political map was overruled”. The map remained on display in the background.

Pakistan had on Aug 4 — a day before the first anniversary of annexation of occupied Kashmir by India — unveiled the new political map underlining the disputed status of the Kashmir region.

The row over the display of the new map at the NSAs meeting started a few days back during a test call for the conference, where India noticed it in the background.

Later, India protested to Russia, which was hosting the meeting. Moscow conveyed New Delhi’s reservations to Islamabad, but the Foreign Office, according to Mr Yusuf, rejected the Indian position and refused to remove the map.

Pakistan’s position was that contrary to the Indian claim, the map does not claim any part of the Indian territory and was in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and “sentiments” of the Kashmiris.

The National Security Division (NSD), in a media statement, said: “Pakistan highlighted that India under international law had no legal rights to claim the internationally recognised disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India. Pakistan informed SCO secretariat that India’s illegal and unilateral actions in IIOJK were in grave violation of the UN Charter and UNSC resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.”

The SCO agreed to Pakistan’s position, it added.

The map then remained on display in Mr Yusuf’s background during the meeting prompting Ajit Doval to walk out.
“Once again, India’s attempts to make a significant multilateral forum subject to petty bilateral debate failed and Pakistan’s new political map and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people were highlighted during the meeting of National Security Advisors of SCO member states,” the NSD stressed.

Next meeting, Pakistan will surely not have that map in the background.

Pakistani politicizing every forum. It killed SAARC with its constant Kashmir rhetoric. Now they are turning to SCO. This leaves a bad taste for other participants who are not bothered about our issues.

Shanghai Non-Cooperation Organization, please get your terms right.
And India isnt bound to co-operate on any issue or matter that doesn't benefit it. In this case, Pakistan and any agenda that benefits Pakistan, unless its on mutually beneficial terms.
So no, we are well within our right to make a statement by actions or words, and we are not bound to follow anyone's agenda, especially Pakistan or China.
Besides, India is there because of our close relationship with Russia and amicable ones to the CAR. So our benefit lies in co-operating with them. This action is targetted at Pakistan. Not sure why others should care.

When a country sign on to such a cooperative organization, everything is considered before hand. Did u morons just blindly signed because daddy russia said so? And after signing a cooperation agreement, u go on non cooperation agenda then what u think will happen? And who will be the odd one, looking like an immature kid?? All tje aspects of SCO are for mutual benefits, its the purpose of it, india trying to politicize it and doing non cooperation as u mentioned would lead to it being kicked out. You clearly have no idea about international relations but surprisingly even ur govt and NSA are morons.

I cant see border on right side.

Yes because the border on the right side is yet to be demarcated between Pakistan and china. Most probably half of laddakh including leh will go to china.

. . .
We are all witnessing the worst India can do against Pakistan - there isn't really anything else except an all out war which is not happening. India was invited to SCO but it doesn’t mean it will be allowed to act as a spoiler of regional cooperation and integration. India and Pakistan have the same status in SCO as far as membership is concerned, so you are not the only one with so called veto.
The rejection of Indian objection just shows the limit of India - i.e all you will be doing is just staging walkouts huffing and puffing while rest of the players will keep doing business as normal. This means in no way India can make SCO dysfunctional as per your delusions of grandeur.

Exactly. UN is designed to serve the interests of the Western world against the rest of the world. Nations like India use their position to act like serfs of the western world, doing their bidding against China for example.

SCO was setup to promote the interests of countries who the UN tries to curb, namely China and Russia. India is part of SCO because it's a big market and in the region. If it tries calling the shots, it'll be put in it's place like it was yesterday. Russia and China have the same regional interests - they won't let India get in the middle of that.
