New Delhi: An Indian migrant working in Saudi Arabia has alleged that he was forcefully fed beef by his employers. 31-year-old Manik Chattopadhyay landed up a job in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah as a cook. However, after arriving he was told that his job would only be to serve food. Later, after reaching his workplace Manik was forced to serve cooked beef which was against his religious beliefs.

When he protested his employers forcefully fed him beef. Narrating his ordeal on Twitter he said that he was extremely offended and traumatised by this torture and inhuman behaviour.

In his complaint to the Consular Services Management System of the MEA Manik has threatened to kill himself.

“His treatment has been cruel inhuman and degrading and is also a gross abuse of his human rights and right to his religious belief has been violated,” the grievance reads.

Times Now spoke to Manik and he alleged that he was mocked and humiliated in front of his colleagues by the employer on the basis of his faith. He also said that no one intervened when he was forcefully fed beef. He also said that there are others like him in Jeddah who are facing the same situation.

The man had secured this job through a consultancy based out of Mumbai. Manik now wants to return to India and has appealed to Dr S Jaishankar, the newly appointed Minister of External Affairs on Twitter.

The EAM has instructed the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to keep him apprised on the situation.

Last year, Saudi Arabia arrested more than 1.25 million people for violating residential, labour and border security regulations, as per the local media reports.

Many Indians are lured by local consultancy firms to join the Saudi workforce with the promise of good pay. However, most of them are cheated and once they arrive in Middle Eastern countries their passports are seized by the company and they are forced to work under inhumane conditions.

I sometimes used to deliberately eat beef burger in front of my Indian colleagues when I was in America, and they had NO problems with it (or at least they pretended, because of fear of whitey). The same people would have probably had me lynched if I tried that in India.

Becoming a chef in a Muslim country where people do eat beef? Manik doesn't sound very smart. More importantly he should have stayed back in India where his deity is not eaten and people can lose their lives for eating it. I don't understand some morons who go to another country knowing that their religious/cultural practices might clash with the host country.
