Indian warship INS Delhi foils pirate attack

As I already said. Can You answer me why a Fishing Boat was fishing in International Waters?? Why Did It Not Not Respond after warnings??? and If All this is True, why did International maritime Agency Award the Indian Navy for Being the best on the Job?

Read my post above, they are on the way back after delivering fishing equipments.

Err,

My genius brain aside, the fact that in that incident Indian Navy (So called a professional force) was unable to distinguish between a Thai fishing boat and a pirate "Mother Ship", shows how genius the people you actually have working in IN.

It was a sarcastic joke, i know many of you don't like it, but please don't take it to your heart.

Here,

The fact still remains, it wasn't a pirate "Mother Ship"

I wonder what fishing trawler doing in the strait of Bab-el Mandeb??..It is no place for a boat less than that 10 meter draft and speed less than 18kts, besides UN resolution 1838 allows use force against ships with hostile intent or refusing to hoist the white ensign(allowing for inspection).

Indeed, with Automatic Guns, Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launchers and Without Proper call Signs, this Is More than Enough To justify Indian Navy's act in Bringing that Vessel which ever it may be down...

Really? can you read? or just refused to face the "Truth"?

The vessel, which was sunk by INS Tabar, an Indian frigate, on the night of November 18, was the Ekawat Nava 5, a deep-sea trawler, rather than a floating pirate armoury loaded with supplies of ammunition and explosives, as India had claimed.

The news is an embarrassment for India’s Navy, which had been praised for taking the fight to the heavily armed Somali pirates that are terrorising the Suez Canal trade route.

The incident is likely to prompt a review of the terms of engagement by the maritime forces patrolling the Indian Ocean, which include the Royal Navy, security analysts said.

Yesterday the Indian Navy insisted that INS Tabar had acted in self-defence after being threatened. Earlier it had released photographs of the incident, which showed a large explosion on board the targeted vessel. Disputing that account, Mr Wicharn said the trawler was heading to Yemen from Oman to deliver fishing equipment when it was attacked by two pirate speedboats. The pirates were in the process of boarding the fishing vessel when the Indian Navy appeared, he added.

Details of the two-hour stand-off between the two vessels remain scant. India has said its ship was threatened by pirates but has not made clear if radio contact was made between the vessels. The navy spokesman said the INS Tabar did not ask the pirates if they were holding hostages. The Navy refused to respond to The Times’s request for clarification of events.

And They traveled 3349 nautical miles From Thailand to the Somalian waters in those boats to sell Fish??... Are You kidding me??? and the Shortest Route Possible is through "Rameshwaram" Port in India, And where is the Call sign??? Indian naval ships have escorted about 700 merchant ships, including 600 foreign-flagged vessels from over 45 countries, during anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since October 2008. And Indian navy is no fool to Fire without Valid reason

You guys like quoting western sources when it suits you and condemn them as imperialistic, anti-Islamic, anti-Pakistani, pro-Indian, western propaganda when it doesn't.

Glad to know that you are also human.

Neither you nor the NYT journalist were within 1000 miles of the incident. Since you have no first hand information of the incident, it all therefore boils down to your perception and inclination. Had it been a Chinese warship instead of an Indian one, you would have been singing an altogether different tune. We know that and know what to expect from you.

Long live Indian Navy, Long live INDIA.

Then you must have read comments also on the article at nytimes site. Most of the people are not buying the claim that it was not a mothership.

So? If it’s in enemy hands, it’s an enemy ship. No one thought the pirates built this ship themselves, did they?

If the ship was not in pirates’ control, why was no SOS sent out? How come the Indian Naval Ship received threatening calls if the target was just an innocent trawler? Last (but not the least) why did the supposed trawler blow up after being hit by a few Gatling rounds? Does “fishing equipment” include ammo/explosives?
I am not buying this claim by the supposed owner unless he can answer these questions.

Well..duh. Did somebody seriously expect that the pirates would be operating a purpose built warships, with pirate submarines circling ahead of pirate aircraft carriers? Of course it’s a bloody captured merchant ship with a bunch of armed thugs on board!

Let me see if I get this. The US and its NATO allies, as well as India and some others, have the best trained, best equipped navies in the world, with all manner of satellite technology and infrared whimwhams and whatnot, and they can’t deter a bunch of ragtag “pirates” tearing around in some Zodiacs and the stray Chris-Craft? I know some of the pirates are a bit more advanced than this, but what if we put some swabbies on a few freighters, with a few TOW missiles or whatever is hot these days, and and the next time these SOBs try their piracy, boom, down go the zodiacs and all that. I am sure I am oversimplifying, but this is really getting tired.

I think what the owner was saying that action is “in progress”. Perhaps pirates are already in command but the hostages are still there and incapable to do anything else.

See below:
******
But it turns out now that the “mother ship” may not have been in pirate hands very long. According to the CNN report, the ship was the trawler Ekawat Nava 5, which had been headed from Oman to Yemen to deliver fishing equipment when it was attacked by pirates off the Horn of Africa, according to Wicharn Sirichaiekawat, owner of the Ekawat Nava 5. The pirates were still taking control of the ship when the Tabar moved in, he said.

Strange! What the owner was doing so long? Didn’t he know that his ship had been captured by the pirates? Or, he wants us to believe that it was being captured at that very moment when the Indian navy challenged them? Difficult to buy the story.

You are quite willing to swallow it was a 2 hour engagement.. quite willing to doubt the navy did not establish contact.. you have fallen for the fact that navy did not establish thai hostage.. but you are not willing to believe it was a chase on high seas over 2 hours where the navy bombed the living daylights out of pirates only when it exhausted all options within those 2 hours?

Uncle, your western sources (Pakistanis can believe them when it suits your purpose, dont they?) also mention that the Thai fishing boat was being taken over or was being commandeered by the Pirates. Now was Indian navy supposed to first to check the boat's ID papers before responding to an attack from every pirate ship? Use your brains for once. You dont have to fall for stupid arguments just because the issue is about the Indian Navy and you are a Pakistani.

Why the hell are you guy crying over a two year old news? No one blamed Indian Navy for its actions and it still forms one of the important anti-piracy players in the Indian Ocean.

He'll be crying 20 years from now, but if it makes him feel any better, let him.

Indian Navy did a commendable job. Only thing that matters is six ships reached their destination, assured that someone was there to protect them.

Total satisfaction.
