Indian troops no threat to Pak, PM told Clinton

Look mate there is something called the silent maijority. In a house of 10 people one shouts to the outsider it may look like a noisy house. Now 1% like i said of our population is 1.8 million which is a lot of people hating india but its the same in india if 1% hate pakistanis there are a lot of people who hate pakistan. We have to to speak up so we make our voices heard

i think 1.2 billions, why we should hate each other. Most of the problems raised from politicians not from civilians.

Actually that was a double post. As far as saying nice about you, I cannot as long as your country exports terror to my country. Sure we should solve our border issues but if your Govt and Army thinks that we can be brought our knees through the so called 'Non-State Actors' or direct PA intervention, they are living in a fool's paradise. As for the cross-boundary cultural ties , I as a South Indian is not a big fan of it. Anyways it was refreshing to see a Pakistani tracing his roots to Jammu rather than Arabia, Persia or AF as most Pakistanis do.

Our govts need to sort this out we dont even know what the truth is about these terrorists in the fog of propaganda

I dont understand on the one hand indias position is that they dont want external interference regarding the kashmir. If this wikileaks expose is true then it woud suggest otherwise. I wish our leaders would talk straight and sort out all the issues between our countries asap without bringing in white anglo saxon english speakers into the fold

This why I always say " India is not a DEMOCRACY, it is actually a HYPOCRISY ".

Ajmal Kasab was traced back to Pakistan and so was his accomplices. Pakistan Govt was approached by Indian Govt many times so that the voice recognition of 26/11 handlers can be determined, but as usual Pakistan Govt is uncoperative. So what conclusion should I ,as an ordinary Indian, should derive from this attitude of GoP.

When we found out the truth about Samjautha Express, our security agencies were quick to arrest the culprits and put them behind bars.On the otherhand jihadis like Hafeez Sayed is roaming free in Pakistan.

Harpoon I accept I do not actually know the truth and will leave it there.

Isn't it beneficial to move the troops to the other border. Those poor kids were kidnapped and we can stop the influx of Anti Pak militant and help stabilize Afghanistan. In a realistic world I doubt the Indian Army is going to just wake up one day and invade Pakistan..especially after we heeded calls from the States to move troops to the other border.

.
This has probably been taken out of context. The US has consistently asked the PA to increase troop strength on its Western borders with Afghanistan, but the PA is apprehensive of thinning out from the East because of the Indian 'threat'. Manmohan has apparently told Clinton that Pakistan has nothing to fear as India does not pose any threat to it. It should therefore thin out troops from its East to reinforce the formations near the AFPAK border to take on the Taliban.

Here's a good idea, how about India shows some good will and pulls back its armoured and mechanized divisions and Pakistan will do the same. If India has no intentions of attacking Pakistan, whats the purpose of parking these offensive oriented forces right next to the border. As long as India maintains these force levels near the border, she has no right to ask Pakistan to withdraw her forces, its very hypocritical of India to even suggest that.

.
The title is bit funny...I'm wondering what happen if China that: PLA troops no theat to India, my PM told the world"..do we expect Indian to believe that?
I don't get your point. The Sino-Indian border is very peaceful and both countries have acted very maturely with a record of almost no border skirmishes.Nobody thinks that PLA troops are any immediate threat to India and just so that you know we have only 5 division on the border (50k- 75k troops) - which is a small number by any standards.

You're absolutely right but you've to understand the context behind Indian deployments -

There was a full blown insurgency in Kashmir (to which Pakistan says it is a party) in the last decade. In the late 80s and early 90s when local governing bodies were not able to quell the insurgency the GoI used the military. Military fought a low intensity conflict for almost two decades there.

Having said that, this was the most peaceful summer since the insurgency started in the late 80s and saw the return of tourism in a big way. Indian troops have slowly started moving out of the cities towards the border. This means that slowly the no. of troops in Kashmir might decrease.

As far as Punjab and Rajasthan are concerned, there are still some thoughts about fighting a limited war under nuclear umbrella next time when some Pakistanis launch a high profile attack. Under Cold Start Doctrine, the Indian army would carry out quick and offensive joint operations inside Pakistani heartland.

The ball lies in Pakistan's court - I don't think it has any threat from India unless there is a terrorist attack originating from Pakistan which India feels has the patronage of Pakistan's administration.

.
What does this say:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reportedly asked US secretary of state Hillary Clinton to convince Pakistan to withdraw its troops from the Line of Control as Indian forces were "far from the border and were no threat to Pakistan".

Read what it says.

Nothing makes sense if it is quoted out of context. You are welcome to interpret it that way!

But you should ask yourself a simple question - what does India gain if you've less troops on the border?

But how can this be interpretad any other way. I think that some people here dont want to believe what it says and therefore are suggesting what far fetched theories that are unnecessary. Ask your leader I dont know what he had to gain perhaps he was scared.
