Indian troops killed in Kashmir clash with militants

Hundreds of thousands of troops are based in Kashmir
An Indian army captain and two soldiers have been killed in a prolonged encounter with militants in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Clashes began early on Tuesday morning in the Chinkipora area in Sopore town, 54km (33 miles) north of Srinagar city.

A defence spokesman told the BBC that troops laid siege to a militant hideout after receiving a tip-off. The operation is still continuing.

Thousands of troops are fighting a two decade-old insurgency in Kashmir.

The BBC's Altaf Hussain in Srinagar says these are the highest casualties suffered by the Indian forces in an operation in Kashmir so far this year.

'Tough fight'

The operation was launched jointly by the army, paramilitary troops and police.

The militants fired at the security forces when they were asked to surrender.

The area was cordoned off and a heavy gun battle began.

A police officer told the BBC that the militants were armed with grenade launchers and sophisticated weapons and put up a tough fight.

The fighting continued till late at night and the operation began again on Wednesday morning, although there has been no firing so far.

A defence spokesman said the troops were treading carefully because there may be more militants hiding in the area.

Respect to the fallen soldiers. May their lives and their martyrdom inspire a thousand others.

This is the cheapest comment yet on PDF by far. Commenting this way on the death of a soldier is the cheapest troll till date. Its attitude like this that has not only made the life of every Muslim tough but also ruined Pakistan. The sacrifice of these soldiers will not go in vain and all culprits will pay in due time. Jai Hind.

. .
Apart from Captain Devinder Singh Jass, the other Armymen killed are Naik Selva Kumar and Paratrooper Imtiyaz Ahmad Thokar of 1 PARA. Paratrooper Imtiyaz belongs to the Shupiyan district of Kashmir.

A Hindu, A Sikh and a Muslim, all laid their lives for the country they love. A true testament to those that question a Muslim’s devotion to the country. No religion allows violence and maybe these so called "Jihadi’s " have forgotten that. Being a Muslim myself i know the real meaning the Koran and its a shame that some people play with the meaning to suit their own needs. May the souls of these great individuals rest in peace.

Re: Indian troops killed in Kashmir clash with militants
no doubt while our politicians were making shady late night deals to fill their coffers, rascals that they are. The blood of our brave soldiers is on their hands. Talking nonsense about FINSAS even while not having basic equipment is our soldiers plight.

This thread is the worst I have seen in PDF. I have no problem with anyone reporting the news, but to put a thumbs up sign at the death of soldiers is nothing short of despicable.

May the fallen rest in peace

Its not the time to play the blame game brother, its time to grief for the fallen soldiers and their families. May the Amar Javan Jhoti burn bright forever, Jai Hind

Ball is in your court , give Kashmiris their right of self determination as you promised in UNO and live in peace and let them live in peace.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

No body want bloodshed , but you have to fight for your rights.

Where ever muslims are living it is their basic human right to spend their life as per Shariah law , If India Government provide them environment to spend their life as Shariah law , then their is no reason for any conflict.
