Saidpur Workshop was one of bests during British and also Pakistan period, when the non-Bengali Biharis were more in employment. Saidpur was a big City with more than 100,000 people most of whom were Biharis. Now, may of them are gone and with them has gone also the work ethics in the workshop.
People there are busy with stealing the property of railway as it is in every govt sector. Saidpur needs a good rehabilitation. Old and obsolete machines must be replaced with new ones, and new important shops must be built. I think, Indian railway suppliers, having common railway system, are more in a position to rehabilitate our old workshop. The reality is we remain behind India.
It is time we allow the Indian company to do the job and our railway engineers learn from them. However, I believe the Rly Ministry should contract a private company to supervise works while its engineers learn from Indians.
