Brig. S.K. Chatterji (retd) meanwhile pointed out that the leaders of several insurgent groups had travelled to China some time back, indicating Beijing's possible involvement.

"Around a month-and-a-half back, leaders of all these insurgent groups travelled to China... We may possibly see a surge in attacks in the near future," Chatterji told IANS.

There must be a sense of achievement for sure.
But it came at the cost of 18charred bodies, if intelligence units were on alert then Chandel could have been avoided.
Though our intelligence units have so far been able to ward off such attacks after Mumbai 2008.

You must remember that inspite of all precautions terrorists do get lucky ONCE at least

Of course now the Indian Army will be more careful in the North East

But revenge is Necessary ; Only then the enemy will fear you

@levina sadly I understand what you mean to say. However we had excellent intel sharing operations with Mayanmar. Dont know where it failed and how it failed. I know this coz we have done numerous activities inside Burma!..and this was Army which was at forefront of it and not Manipur home officials.

Anyway gone is gone, this could become our biggest problem, more dangerous than before if not handled properly.
Dashyy frankly speaking I dont understand Myanmar's strategy, afaik Chief of NSCN-IM lives in Myanmar.

But revenge is Necessary ; Only then the enemy will fear you
I'm not against revenge attacks.

A judicial commission appointed by the Supreme Court has held that an encounter in Manipur carried out by an Army Major who was awarded the nation's highest peacetime gallantry medal in 2009 was staged and that two cousins had been "knowingly" targeted by security forces.

The "encounter" in which cousins Gobind and Nobo Meitei were killed, took place in Imphal's Langol area on April 4, 2009 and involved a joint team of the local police and 39 Assam Rifles (AR) personnel. Four months later, Major D Sreeram Kumar, who was leading the AR unit, was awarded the Ashoka Chakra for being responsible for a "palpable decrease in insurgency activities" and bringing "succour to the people and ensuring their safety".

Newzpoll: Ashoka Chakra awardee led fake encounter in Manipur, says SC panel

Just cos its an encounter doesnt mean they are innocent. Army, Police are demoralised by the fact that various NGO's prevent them from getting the death penalty in court

This was an official announcement by Gen.randheer Singh (not sure about his name). It was all over the news channels.

Intelligence failure or not following the SOP are just textbook excuses

They are good for talk shows

Your soldiers' honour is avenged by killing the enemies

It was a question of morale and motivation ;
Morale and motivation are the biggest weapons of a soldier

There must be A lot of happiness in the Army today

Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, Commander, 3 Corps, said in Imphal on Saturday that there was no failure of intelligence in the attack.

“We receive intelligence inputs every day and act and react according to these inputs. There are numerous incidents which are foiled due to the action we have been taking on the basis of these inputs — there are so many incidents that we prevent. In this case, it happened to be an instance in which the militants were successful in carrying out their operation,” he said. (With Esha Roy in Imphal)
