Any country who is either a) harbouring terrorists or b)incapable of carrying out operations against such groups have no right to complain if an outside power takes it upon themselves to strike against those who are threatening their nation.

India has done Myanmar (and humanity) a favour either way.

But lets not try to cover our shortcomings, war or peace intelligence guys should not be sleeping.

It was not solely an intel failure sadly. As stated in the ET article- the unit (6 Dogra) did not fully implement SOPs. This is disturbingly similar to an almost identical attack that took place in Kashmir a couple of years back on another IA unit- that time the soldiers were also going on leave and certain SOPs had failed to be implemented.

The IA is now becoming a victim of its own success- the relative peace they have fought so hard to implement has made them, in some cases, complacent and terrorists are exploiting this to a disturbing extent. ISAF were burnt by this continuously with the so-called "Green on Blue" attacks on their personnel by Afghan security force members. I'm sure the IA will learn its lesson.

It is absurd to be transporting troops (that too in such high numbers) in soft-skinned trucks in Kashmir and the NE as if they are in the NCR or Bangalore. The only protection for troops in the back of a Stallion or 3-ton is canvas. Not only do the SOPs need to be respected but they need to be fully revised.
